Both starts in bumpers, better effort when midfield (albeit well held) here latest; plenty of further progress is required and 2m still looks too sharp on breeding.

Brother to very useful staying chaser Notachance; showed no significant promise in his three qualifying races during the winter (1m7f-2m4f) but makes handicap debut from a basement mark and might be aided by the addition of cheekpieces.

Placed in Kelso bumper last spring; showed nothing more than minor promise in his three qualifying runs over hurdles there (2m, soft/heavy) and his tendency to race too freely remains a worry but he has a lowly mark for this handicap debut and is a possible improver.

Has run in just one Irish point, a bumper and two novice hurdles; made most and kept on well when beaten a neck in six-runner race at Leicester (1m7f, heavy) latest; that suggested he'd be suited by further and there should be enough stamina in the pedigree, so he's one to note on handicap debut.

Promising fourth on Irish point debut last February (yielding to soft) and built upon his encouraging seasonal/bumper debut (soft) when keeping-on fourth over hurdles at Carlisle (2m1f, good to soft) last month; almost certainly has more to offer and features prominently in calculations.

Verdict

The one with the most potential is likely to be WAL BUCK’S, who should build on his eyecatching Carlisle effort. Valleyview Tommy, who ran respectably over C&D on his rules debut, is second choice ahead of Dream Boy who is top on bare figures as things stand but sets an undemanding standard. The selection’s stablemate Northern Cardinal could be involved if he settles.[Steve Boow]
