Form & Verdict

Ran a mighty race until his stamina evaporated in last month's Coral Gold Cup at Newbury (3m2f, good to soft); runs off mark 1lb higher than when good third of 23 in the Plate at the Festival in March (C&D, soft) and he could play a leading role now back down in distance.

10yo who has been better than ever the last twice with wins at Cheltenham (2m4f, heavy/soft), latest in the Plate at the Festival when he went clear before appearing to idle close home; a 6lb rise for last time certainly isn't harsh and he's run well on the Mildmay course here; respected.

Finished an honourable third in this race (soft) last year; had a fair stab at his first run beyond 2m5f when fourth at Aintree next time (3m1f, good to soft) but was a non-stayer over 3m2f at Newbury in December and has since confirmed that 2m4f is his trip when coming clear quite readily over C&D (heavy) on New Year's Day; 4lb higher than 12 months ago but he could now be an improved performer.

Form & Verdict

His losing run is up to 11 and he's proving difficult to win with, while from out of the handicap today he's 4lb higher than when a near-10l third in the December Gold Cup over C&D (soft) 16 days ago; however, he's been running well this season and might not be far away.

On a 15-race losing run and hasn't been at his very best on last three starts; however, last month's sixth in the Plate at Cheltenham was a big step back in the right direction and he's on a handy mark on form such as his third in the Grand Sefton over C&D (heavy) in November; each-way chance.

Latest win in January 2022; the step up to 2m4f wasn't a success in last year's Plate but he ran two good races over C&D in midwinter (soft and heavy; effective on good to soft) and now 7lb lower than the latest of them; out of sorts since but not ignored for yard that has won this three times.

Proving difficult to win with, last scoring in January 2022; however, he was running with great credit this season (2m4f/2m5f, heavy-good to soft) until an early mistake cost him when favourite back over 2m at Lingfield two weeks ago; player.

11yo who has looked as good as ever this season, winning at Chepstow (2m3f, soft) on reappearance before staying-on third in the Old Roan at Aintree (2m4f, good to soft); has plenty of good form here and, having lost his pitch mid-race last time, the returning cheekpieces could help; has a chance.

Second-season chaser who made it four wins in a row when back over fences at Aintree (2m4f, heavy) 23 days ago; finished tired on the ultra-testing ground, which the majority of his rivals failed to handle, and he's up 8lb; however, he still won by 14l and this progressive 8yo is not ruled out.

Has won five handicaps in the north since last January (one hurdle) but off a career-high mark he was brought back down to earth at Cheltenham on New Year's Day (2m4f, heavy); looks very vulnerable here under his big weight, especially trying 3m for the first time under rules; probably best on softer ground as well.

Form & Verdict

C&D winner who returned from long absence in Paddy Power Gold Cup here (2m4f, soft) in November and was beaten when falling two out; didn't run badly when sixth in December Gold Cup over C&D (soft) latest and perhaps he'll build on it, but this 10yo is even further out of the handicap today.

Acts well here and was a C&D winner (on good; has won on soft) in January 2022; ran as well as could be expected on his first completion after an absence when sixth over C&D in December but subsequent runs, on this track and at Ascot, suggest he needs more weight off his back.

Front-runner who won the Grade 1 Turners Novices' Chase here (2m4f, soft) in March and also the Paddy Power Gold Cup here (2m4f, soft) in November, winning by 4l despite a blunder at the final fence; he's gone up 11lb to a very lofty mark but has strong claims in view of that latest performance.

Acts on soft; had an excuse for his flop here on New Year's Day when last seen, having returned stiff/sore; 3-3 over fences at Cheltenham (2m4f) otherwise, including wins in the Turners on this card last year and major handicap in November; a smart and mostly progressive front-runner who holds leading claims, provided he's back on song.

Smart front-running novice chaser during a 2022-23 campaign that included two notable wins at Cheltenham (2m4f, soft), beating Notlongtillmay in Festival Grade 1 on second occasion; flopped at Aintree on final outing but that's not the form to judge him on; major contender back here.
