Pulled up at Chepstow last month and now goes without blinkers, in which he'd been running well previously this winter (two wins); however, heavy ground may have been too much last time; a contender if bouncing back.

Nothing like the force of old but is handicapped accordingly now; dropped another 2lb since last month's very respectable fourth at Ludlow and will be suited by the return to this C&D; can make a bold bid from the front.

11yo who was disappointing at Ayr (2m, soft) last month but posted two respectable performances previously when making the frame at Lingfield (2m4f, good to soft) and Chepstow (2m3f, heavy), and he's been given a chance by the handicapper; could have a part to play.

Has regressed but still fancies the challenge and ran with plenty of enthusiasm before wilting late on at Chepstow (2m3f, heavy); only went down by 7l and dropping back in distance could be a good thing.

His jumping has been holding him back over fences this season but he has produced some fair performances; he may be able to improve upon those efforts now back hurdling and he's on a handy mark; won on debut in novice hurdle (2m4f, soft) in March 2022 and he's lightly raced for his age.

His breakthrough win had been coming and he duly edged home to get off the mark at Lingfield 18 days ago; that was over 2m6f on heavy but he's fine over this far and a 3lb rise is manageable, especially with the second again running well in defeat earlier this week.

Half-brother to the stable's smart chaser Cepage; a maiden after nine runs but he's knocking at the door, going down only narrowly in 2m handicaps on his two starts over fences; stays 2m4f well; might be the answer.

Kept on dourly to score at Fontwell (2m3f, heavy) in February but has not really been firing on all cylinders since; made his jockey work very hard before eventually taking modest second at Fontwell (2m2f, heavy) on latest outing; will need to race with greater zest here.

2-15 over fences, the latter win gained here (2m3f, heavy) in February; this race looks stronger, though, and he's been safely held off today's mark twice this month.

Verdict

Mount Tempest could put the pace to the race and should be on the premises when it matters, as when the new blinkers worked well for him at Sandown. However, HUNTER LEGEND (nap) only just missed out when strongly fancied for his chase debut at Ludlow and this half-brother to Cepage can improve for today’s stiffer stamina test. New Found Fame is also a major player.[Alistair Jones]
