Form & Verdict

Won Newbury bumper last February and a Fontwell novice hurdle in October; third in Grade 2 novice at Cheltenham (2m, good) later in October is easily his best form, after he lost narrowly when 1-6 at Hexham (2m, heavy) in November but he suffered an overreach during that race; the form pick judged on both of those last two starts.

Big step forward when readily winning a Fakenham maiden (2m4f, soft) by 16l in December; however, he pulled up at Plumpton 12 days ago after jumping and hanging badly to his right, again when claimer ridden; goes right-handed this time and should be placed at least if that sees him back to form.

Verdict

The form points firmly to IDY WOOD, who may well have had an excuse with his overreach when he was beaten a neck at 1-6 last time out. West Warhorse and Gms Prince (second choice) are the only others who have shown significant form over hurdles. Laura Morgan runs two and Mark Walford three, with the well-related newcomer Red Sam looking the first string on jockey bookings for the latter stable, so he needs a close look.[Richard Austen]
