Key events and winners

Racing at Punchestown on Good to Yielding ground produced a competitive seven-race card. Ma Jacks Hill (11/1) prevailed in the Bermingham Cameras Novice Chase (13:22) after a sustained battle, while Vaureal (9/1) made virtually all the running to land the K‑Mech Mechanical Handicap Chase (14:32). Fairlander (7/2) was comfortable in the Congratulations Nicole Lockhead Anderson INHSC Ladies Handicap Hurdle (15:07). Between Friends (5/1) scored decisively in the Lily & Wild Mares Maiden Hurdle (15:42) and Jerry From Kerry (3/1) produced a smooth finish to win the John Dowling Memorial Maiden Hurdle (16:17). Smackwater Jack (22/1) showed determination to win the TRM Supporting Every Stride Of The Journey Handicap Hurdle (16:52) and Al Arrivee (5/6) completed the day with a clear success in the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Mares (Pro/Am) INH Flat Race (17:27).

There were a number of incidents to note: Uno Me I Like My T, Ajp Falco and Work Place all suffered falls during their races; Captain Conby slipped up on the home turn; Cock And Bull was cast in the stalls and did not run; Cherry Red was declared unsuitable for the ground; and a couple of declared horses had run earlier in the week. Overall the card saw several decisive late moves and a mix of experienced trainers and jockeys claiming victories.

Punchestown Race Results

Punchestown stages 19 top quality jumps meetings and one flat race meeting each season, highlighted by the five-day Punchestown Festival in late April/early May. Punchestown is regarded as the home of steeplechasing in Ireland and the festival meeting mirrors the Cheltenham Festival. It features twelve Grade 1 races including the Punchestown Gold Cup and the Champion Hurdle.

Other key races at the festival include the Champion Chase, Champion Stayers Hurdle and Mares Champion Hurdle. The meeting also features the La Touche Cup with horses running over Punchestown’s unique four-mile cross country course.

Other important races at Punchestown are the Grade 1 Morgiana Hurdle in November and the John Durkan Memorial Punchestown Chase in December. The Grade 2 Moscow Flyer Novice Hurdle in January and Tied Cottage Chase in February are significant Cheltenham trials. The token flat racing day takes place in September and was introduced in 2020, the first flat meeting at the track for 18 years.

GG will provide the latest Punchestown race results in record time on Today’s Results & Racecards from the dropdown menu. This page is continually updated and is one of the fastest results services available.

Racecourse Guide

Punchestown is a right handed undulating track of around two miles with a steady climb through the last five furlongs. The fences are quite stiff and can prove a tricky test for an inexperienced jumper with eleven fences to be negotiated on each circuit. The cross country course is long and twisting and famous for its unique banks so previous course form is a definite advantage.

The hurdles track is on the inside of the chase course and therefore sharper. It is also more undulating than the chase course with tight bends. It tends to favour hurdlers who like to race up with the pace and it is difficult to make up ground in the home straight.

Dining, Hospitality & Facilities

Weekend race day hospitality at Punchestown includes Trackside at the Watch House Panoramic Restaurant. It is set beside the horse-walk with stunning views across the racecourse. Similar packages are available for midweek meetings. You can also book private racing suites for groups of 20 to 50 guests. These are located on the top level of the Panoramic and Main Grandstands and include a private balcony, private bar and a dedicated catering team.

Festival packages also include The Watch House as well as the La Touche Restaurant, Punchestown Pavilion, Festival Pavilion and The Corinthian. La Touche provides a bistro style experience in a stylish interior while The Corinthian is the flagship venue of the new Hunt Stand. All Festival packages offer top quality cuisine and breath-taking views of the racing action. There are also numerous food and drink outlets across the racecourse to suit every budget.

Punchestown is located in Eadestown, near Naas in County Kildare and is about 30km south of Dublin. Irish Rail runs a service from Dublin (Heuston) to Sallins, just outside Naas. Shuttle buses to and from the racecourse are in operation for the Festival meeting.

Tickets

Punchestown admission tickets can be purchased online with big savings for advance bookings. You can also reserve your hospitality packages with a full description and price list on the website. You can also purchase a Members Club Ticket with access to all 20 meetings with added extras and a generous reciprocal programme in Ireland and the UK.

The Effect of the Draw

With only one flat meeting per season at Punchestown, there is not enough information available to indicate any draw bias.
