1000 Guineas Runners & Riders
With time counting down to the first Classics of the season, the 1000 Guineas runners and riders are beginning to become clearer. The race is the first in the fillies’ Triple Crown, open only to three-year-olds who can then run in the Oaks and St Leger as well.
It will be run this year in May 2025 at Newmarket over 1m of their Rowley Mile track. Here are the runners and riders for the 2025 renewal.

Who are the Top Three Favourites to Win this Year’s 1000 Guineas?
The favourites to win the 2025 1000 Guineas are yet to reveal themselves, as the 2024 flat season is yet to uncover any juveniles who may take high rank among next season’s Classic generation. Until more of this year’s flat season unfolds, we will not know which horses will be likely favourites for the contest.
1000 Guineas Horse Entries & Selections
The selection process for the 1000 Guineas is only necessary if more than 25 runners are declared. However, this is exceptionally rarely the case, so the only key criteria a filly must have met is to be three years old at the time of the race.
Entries are made well in advance for the race but are consistently whittled down until the off, with forfeit stages throughout the calendar year beforehand. This leaves a final field usually into double figures, leaving a competitive set of 1000 Guineas runners and riders for punters to have a bet on.
Which Trainers Have Historically Had the Most Success in the 1000 Guineas?
You have to go back to the pre-Victorian era for the name of the most successful trainer in 1000 Guineas history. His name was Robert Robson, whose nine victories are not only the most of any handler in the race but also all arrived within a decade between 1818 and 1827. The 1824 renewal was the only one which he lost.
The modern day great that is Aidan O’Brien is next on the list of most successful trainers in the race’s storied past. He has recorded seven victories to date, the first coming courtesy of Virginia Water in 2005, and though he did not send out another winner for seven years after that, his most recent three winners came in a hat-trick between 2019-21: Hermosa, Love and Mother Earth. He may yet reach Robson’s record of nine 1000 Guineas winners before his career is called.
