2000 Guineas Runners & Riders

The 2000 Guineas represents the start of the flat season in earnest, as it is the first of the five Classic races which define a generation of racehorses. With the race approaching, the 2000 Guineas runners and riders are beginning to become clearer, with the trials races in the early season already past.

Here are the runners for the 2025 2000 Guineas at Newmarket, along with their trainer and jockey:

Who are the Top Three Favourites to Win this Year’s 2000 Guineas?

Many horses arrive with big reputations ahead of the 2000 Guineas at Newmarket. These runners and riders are all subject to extra pressure, although the best of these almost always emerge victorious before going on to write their names in the history books down the line.

Closer to the 2025 renewal of the 2000 Guineas, we will analyse the three favourites at the head of the market.

2000 Guineas Horse Entries & Selections

As one of just five Classic races all season, the 2000 Guineas is a championship contest. However, it is only open to three-year-olds, which immediately narrows down those who are able to participate in it. This has been the case ever since the race was first run in 1809.

The maximum field for the race is 25 runners, though it is extremely rare for the race to ultimately attract such a field. Given there is an odds-on favourite this year, 25 runners will not be declared, although the race usually boasts at least ten runners, making it a decent betting contest for onlookers.

When the field is set, our top team of tipsters, Andrew Mount and Matty Sutcliffe, will give their selections for the race on this page.

Which Trainers Have Historically Had the Most Success in the 2000 Guineas?

Irish maestro, Aidan O’Brien, has won more 2000 Guineas than anyone in history. He has collected on ten different occasions; King Of Kings was his first back in 1998, while Magna Grecia was his most recent in 2019.

The six years in between represent an unusually barren spell for the master of Ballydoyle. Since that first success, he has never gone this long without winning the opening Classic of the season. Great horses such as Rock Of Gibraltar, Camelot and Churchill have ensured that.

When Churchill was victorious in 2017, O’Brien was overtaking Victorian trainer John Scott as the winningest in the race. Scott sent out seven winners in the 19th century, spanning 20 years between 1842 and 1862.
