Revenge was sweet for the Gosdens as the hugely impressive Field Of Gold confirmed himself as the best miler of his generation by some distance in the St James’s Palace Stakes. Henri Matisse did his best to chase him down, but lacked the acceleration while 2000 Guineas winner Ruling Court could not keep up in third.

The Queen Anne Stakes
The Queen Anne Stakes is a Group 1 contest run over one mile.
The Coventry Stakes
The Coventry Stakes is run over 6f exclusively for two-year-olds and the Group 2 contest provided an enormous 80/1 shock in 2024 when Rashabar claimed the race.
The King’s Stand Stakes
The Group 1 contest run over the flying five is open to three-year-olds and up.
The St James’s Palace Stakes
The Group 1 contest for three-year-olds was won in sparkling fashion by Field Of Gold in 2025.
The Ascot Stakes
The handicapping contest over the extended 2m4f often features runners based at National Hunt yards.
The Wolferton Stakes
The Listed Wolferton Stakes run over 1m2f is for horses aged four and up.
The Copper Horse Stakes
A new handicap run over 1m6f was introduced during the COVID festival of 2020.
Day 2 Royal Ascot Races
The Queen Mary Stakes
The Group 2 contest run over 5f is exclusively for two-year-old fillies.
The Queen’s Vase
Often used as a launchpad for bigger successes down the line, the Group 2 staying race has thrown up a host of future Group 1 winners and was won last year by Carmers.
The Duke of Cambridge Stakes
The Duke of Cambridge Stakes is a Group 2 contest run over the straight mile.
The Prince of Wales’s Stakes
A Group 1 event run over the 1m2f trip and a race which saw Ombudsman break through at Group 1 level in 2025.
The Royal Hunt Cup
A tricky puzzle to solve, The Royal Hunt Cup is run over the straight one mile and often attracts a large and ultra-competitive field each year.
The Windsor Castle Stakes
The Listed Windsor Castle Stakes is run over 5f and is open just to two-year-olds.
The Kensington Palace Stakes
The Kensington Palace Stakes handicap was introduced for the first time in 2021. Doha, a daughter of two Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe winners, Sea The Stars and Treve, won this race in the past.
Day 3 Royal Ascot Races
The Norfolk Stakes
The Group 2 contest over 5f is exclusive to two-year-olds and last year’s renewal saw Charles Darwin impress for Ballydoyle.
The King George V Stakes
A very competitive three-year-old handicap which is run over 1m4f. It is often contested by late bloomers who were not quite read for the Derby at Epsom.
The Ribblesdale Stakes
The Group 2 contest run over 1m4f usually features fillies who ran in the Oaks at Epsom earlier in the month.
The Gold Cup
The famous Group 1 contest is run over 2m4f and has been won by some of racing’s most famous stayers over the years. Trawlerman won by a wide margin from the front in 2025.
The Britannia Stakes
A three-year-old handicap which is run over the straight mile and often attracts plenty of runners.
The Hampton Court Stakes
The Group 3 1m2f contest is for three-year-olds only.
The Buckingham Palace Stakes
A fiercely competitive handicap which is run over 7f for three-year-olds and up.
Day 4 Royal Ascot Races
The Albany Stakes
The Albany Stakes is run over 6f and is a Group 3 contest for the two-year-olds.
The Commonwealth Cup
The Group 1 contest run over 6f threw up a shock winner in 2025 as Time For Sandals scored at 25/1.
The Duke of Edinburgh Stakes
This 1m4f handicap provided a winner for Ireland in 2024 with Ethical Diamond scoring for Willie Mullins.
The Coronation Stakes
Open to three-year-old fillies, the Coronation Stakes is a Group 1 race that is run over a mile.
The Sandringham Stakes
Another tightly contested handicap which is run over one mile on the straight track. It is another race that is traditionally fiercely competitive.
The King Edward VII Stakes
The King Edward VII Stakes is a Group 2 contest which is run over 1m4f for three-year-olds only. Beaten horses in the Derby often return here.
The Palace of Holyroodhouse Stakes
This 0-105 handicap over 5f is exclusive to three-year-olds and is one of the newest races at Royal Ascot.
Day 5 Royal Ascot Races
Chesham Stakes
The Chesham Stakes is a Listed contest for juveniles and is staged over 7f. Bedtime Story won by nine yawning lengths in 2024.
Jersey Stakes
The Group 3 Jersey Stakes is run over 7f and saw a 25/1 upset with Noble Champion in 2025.
Hardwicke Stakes
The Hardwicke Stakes is run over 1m4f and is a Group 2 contest. The prolific Rebel’s Romance won a year ago.
Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee Stakes
Regarded as one of the best sprint contests of the season, the Group 1 Diamond Jubilee Stakes (now re-named the Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee Stakes) is run over 6f.
Wokingham Stakes
A notoriously difficult race to predict, the Wokingham Stakes is a 6f handicap contest that regularly attracts a decent field each year.
Golden Gates Stakes
The Golden Gates Stakes race has only recently been added to the Royal Ascot programme since 2021.
Queen Alexandra Stakes
The longest race over the five days is the Queen Alexandra Stakes which is run over the extended 2m5f trip.
