Queen Anne Stakes Notable Trends
Triple Time caused a big shock when running out the 33/1 winner of the Queen Anne Stakes in 2023, while Docklands was a 14/1 upset in 2025. Generally, this has been a race for punters though, with four Queen Anne Stakes favourites winning since 2020.
In terms of age, 4yo horses have been the go-to in recent years, with seven of the last nine winning horses representing that age demographic.
Winning form is important too, as the last ten winners of the Queen Anne had all won at least three times before their victories in the race.
The last ten Queen Anne Stakes winners were officially rated 109+, with seven of the last ten rated 115+.
Queen Anne Stakes History
The Queen Anne Stakes has a long history with the race dating back to 1840 when run as the Trial Stakes. It has held its current name since 1930.
Promoted from Group 3 level to Group 2 level in 1984, the race was deemed worthy of Group 1 classification in 2003 and now takes pride of place as the opening race of the Royal meeting.
Just four horses have managed to win multiple Queen Anne Stakes’, this evidently made tougher since the event has been restricted to horses aged 4yo and above, with many winners going into stud at 5yo. The last horse to win multiple Queen Anne’s was Dean Swift, who took the 1906 and 1907 renewals.
Frankie Dettori is currently the most successful rider in the history of the Queen Anne Stakes, having landed seven renewals. Five of those wins came for trainer Saeed bin Suroor, whose seven wins in the Queen Anne make him the most successful trainer in the race’s history.
Superstar Frankel was a famous winner of the Queen Anne back in 2012, justifying odds of 1/10F to score under jockey Tom Queally, making him one of the shortest-priced winners in Royal Ascot history.
