Cheltenham Festival Day 3 Trends
Day three of the Cheltenham Festival takes place on Thursday 12th March, 2026 and there’s a whole host of quality races across the afternoon. Some of the eye-catching contests include the Grade 1 Stayers’ Hurdle at 3.20pm and Grade 1 Ryanair Chase at 4.00pm, which will attract some of the stars of the long-distance hurdle scene and middle-distance chasing scene. We delve down memory land and take a look at the trends and stats for the last ten years, as we look to point you in the right direction of a few winners.

1.20pm – Mares Novices’ Hurdle Trends
- All the 10 winners were aged either 5 or 6-years-old
- 8 of the 10 winners had 2-4 runs over hurdles this season
- 8 of the 10 winners last ran between 28 and 47 days ago
- 7 of the 10 winners had an OR of 135 or higher (2 held no OR the other was 124)

2.40pm – Mares’ Hurdle Trends
- 15 of the last 17 had won over at least 2m 4f
- 15 of the last 17 winners had won 50% or more of their races
- 9 of the last 11 had 2 or more runs that season
- 9 of the last 11 winners had won that season
- 9 of the last 11 winners last ran between 31 and 50 days ago
- 14 of the 18 winners were aged 5 to 7-years-old
- 13 of the 18 winners won last time out
