Andrew Mount’s Daily Racing Preview – Lingfield & Wolverhampton Racing Analysis for Tuesday 3 November

Five tracks go racing in Britain and Ireland on Tuesday, with jumps action at Warwick, Sedgefield, Lingfield and Fairyhouse before Wolverhampton takes over under the lights. Andrew Mount has horses to watch at both Lingfield and Wolverhampton, once again picking out a horse in the day’s final contest.

3.57 Lingfield – Oblemenko (1.5pt win – 11/2 generally)

Trends analysis is usually associated with big races on Saturdays or at the major festivals but there are some gems among the mid-week dross, and this 2m4f Class 5 handicap chase is a case in point. I highlighted this race last year when tipping 13-2 winner Kalif D’Airy in this column and I’m following the same angle this year. Since 2015 (11 runnings, though effectively ten as there were no qualifiers in 2018) maidens, ranked fourth or lower in the weights, have an eight from 21 record (38.1% strike-rate) for a profit of £49.68 to a £1 level stake at SP (+£67.66 at Betfair SP after 2% commission). Gary Moore had two winners and 14-1 fourth from his three runners on this angle and his sons Jamie and Josh, who have now taken over the license, can keep the ball rolling with Oblemenko on his Rules chase/handicap debut. Since 2019, the yard has only run 19 chase debutants in handicap company here and six of them won for a profit of £44.00 to a £1 level stake at SP.

8.30 Wolverhampton – Barachiel (1pt win – 4/1 generally)

Andrew Balding’s three-year-old Fahidi justified 5-2 favouritism under Oisin Murphy in the 1m4f Class 5 handicap at Wolverhampton on October 27th, but it was the performance of 22-1 runner-up Barachiel that caught the eye. The Robert Stephens-trained five-year-old took up the running plenty soon enough and was only worn down by his younger rival close home, going down by half a length and finishing over three lengtsh clear of the third. This was only his eighth career start, and he clearly appreciated the return to a longer trip after his 125-1 sixth of ten in a 7f maiden here in late September. His trainer has a fine record when bringing one of his runners back to the track quickly (nine days or sooner), scoring with 19 of the 69 qualifiers (27.5% strike-rate) since the beginning of 2016 for a huge profit of £127.88 to a £1 level stake at SP (+£202.00 at Betfair SP after 2% commission).
