In handicaps only the score is 0-80 (expected winners = 6.23) yet LEXINGTON BLITZ (stall 6 of , who is sporting cheekpieces for the first time, heads the early betting for this 5f handicap at odds of 2-1 on the back of his half-length runner-up effort at Musselburgh on August 1st. He couldn’t hold on that day despite a good draw, and the form has not worked out. Take him on with the Jennie Candlish-trained ROSENPUR (stall 3) who has better draw and has a solid record over trips 5-5.5f, winning five of his 16 such starts for a profit of £9.38. On left-handed tracks only his record at this sort of trip reads 2110321243101 (5-13) for a profit of £12.38.
8.37 Kempton – SEVENTY (1pt e/w – 12-1 bet365)
SEVENTY was in my tracker as a ‘potential handicap job’ after a trip of eyecatching efforts in maiden/novice company but he could only finish a 10-1 fifth of eight at Haydock on last month’s handicap debut. However, his patient style put him at a disadvantage that day and he fared second best of those to come from off the pace. Eight-length fourth Without Burlington, who emerged best of the closers, was a well backed winner at Wolverhampton next time and the son of Ghaiyyath is worth another chance. His sire’s three-year-olds do well over 1m2f or further, landing 20 of their 104 starts for a profit of £26.61 with the score in the current month standing at six from 18.
