Sandringham Stakes Race in 2025
We won’t know the runners for the Sandringham Stakes until two days before the event and being a handicap contest there is going to be a huge field of runners. It can often see horses that have failed to reach Group level so far in their career, while it will not only seen some proven three-year-old fillies, but also some up-and-comers that look to continue on an upward curve and claim Royal Ascot success.

Sandringham Stakes Notable Trends
Despite being a hugely competitive race and with huge fields lining up in the last ten years there have been four winning favourites of the Sandringham Stakes. Three of the last ten winners have been priced 20/1 or bigger, so it is a contest that can throw up the odd shock here or there.
It’s interesting to look at handicap angle and there have been five winners that have carried 9st or more and five that have carried less than 9st, so you are able to win from anywhere in the handicap.
Three of the last ten winners have come from a single-figured stall, so it could be wise to look at higher numbers when trying to unearth the winner.
Sandringham Stakes History
It may not be a race that holds the prestige of some of the other Royal Ascot races, but the Sandringham Stakes is still targeted by all the leading trainers. Named the Fern Hill Rated Stakes up until 2001 when it was part of the Ascot Heath meeting on the Saturday, the Sandringham has now been moved to day four of Royal Ascot.
Up until 2018 it was a Listed handicap, but it’s been downgraded to a normal handicap race, but is still hugely competitive and in 2025 it’s sure to attract another big field looking for Royal glory on the Friday.
