British Champions Fillies & Mares Stakes Betting Odds
One of the four Group 1s on British Champions Day is limited to the girls, with the British Champions Fillies & Mares Stakes crowning the best middle distance horse of their sex for that season. It is run over 1m4f at Ascot and is the only race held over that distance that day, meaning any filly or mare who wishes to step up from the 1m2f of the Champion Stakes to take on their own sex has a happy home. The market starts to shape up from months out, with the betting currently as follows.

Who are This Year’s British Champions Fillies & Mares Stakes Favourites?
Last year’s winner, Kalpana, is the place to start, as she heads the market in her quest for back-to-back wins in this race. She will be returning off just a 13-day layoff if contesting this Group 1 though, having finished seventh in the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe. She has not won this season, but has raced almost exclusively in the highest company, while she was very impressive here 12 months ago.
Rain will be required for Estrange to be seen to best effect. However, David O’Meara’s near-white four-year-old has won four of her six career starts, is still relatively unexposed, and finished closer to Arc runner-up Minnie Hauk at York last time out than Kalpana did in the Arc. The Yorkshire Oaks was contested on ground quicker than ideal.
The even lesser-sighted Waardah also ranks as having a chance given the record of the Classic generation of three-year-olds in this race. She has won three from five, stepping up to land Listed and Group prizes the last twice.

Each Way
The 22/1 winner last season would have reward outright and each-way backers, though in 2022, only those who backed 50/1 shot Thunder Kiss and 80/1 outsider Insinuendo would have received returns for their second and third-placed efforts respectively. Even with ¼ or ⅕ of those odds at standard each-way terms, their backers would have returned with a healthy profit.
Draw Biases
