Queen Elizabeth II Stakes Betting Odds
Though it does not officially conclude the flat season on turf, British Champions Day is a culmination of the sprinting, miling, staying, and middle distance divisions at the top level in the UK. One of the races which features on the day is the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes, which takes place over the straight mile course at Ascot, this year run on Saturday, 19th October 2024. The market for the race is already live and competitive.

Who are This Year’s Queen Elizabeth II Stakes Favourites?
There has not been a winning outright favourite since 2018. Depending on any market movements before the day, any one of the following may be the one attempting to change that trend.
The likeliest favourite if he turns up on the day is Charyn for Roger Varian. The grey has been both the most improved and standout performer of the season over this trip, winning four of his five starts including securing his first two Group 1 victories. Those wins were earned in imperious fashion and with ground no barrier to his chances, he looks likely to be very popular with punters.
Behind him, there are three young horses all of whom could progress to challenge him. The Irish 1000 and English 2000 Guineas winners Fallen Angel and Notable Speech both look above the ordinary based on what we’ve seen. Karl Burke’s filly has not been seen since her Classic success, but she won that in fine style, finishing five lengths ahead of Opera Singer, the last of the trio.
Aidan O’Brien’s charge could do anything in terms of distance towards the end of the season, but improved to win the Group 1 Nassau Stakes. Meanwhile, Notable Speech returned to his peak form after disappointing at Royal Ascot by comfortably winning the Sussex Stakes. Godolphin runners have not enjoyed the best season in the UK, but he has been a bright spark and possesses a lethal turn of foot.
Who are This Year’s Queen Elizabeth II Stakes Underdogs?
Two of the more prominent underdogs for the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes look set to hail from France. French 2000 Guineas winner Metropolitan may have been an unlikely winner of that Classic, but he followed that up with a very respectable third in the St James’s Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot, finishing ahead of Notable Speech, before finishing second to Charyn at Deauville.
The other key French raider could be last year’s runner-up Facteur Cheval, who has continued to be consistent at the top level. That said, plenty more British and Irish hopefuls abound, with Henry Longfellow, Haatem and Maljoom also intriguing entrants.
Last Year’s Queen Elizabeth II Stakes Odds
Big Rock put daylight between himself and the opposition, routing his rivals by six lengths and more last year at odds of 5/1.
Betting Strategies for the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes
Betting on the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes is designed to be varied and exciting. Lots of different markets will be available for punters come the day of the race.
Outright Winner
Finding the winner of a big race is one of the most enjoyable elements of watching horse racing. In the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes, this does not simply mean backing the favourite, as the last successful market leader was back in 2018.
Each Way
There have been a number of horses who have filled the places in this race in recent seasons who have gone off at decent prices. If you had backed Facteur Cheval on each-way terms at 14/1 last year, you would have returned more than two points in profit.
Draw Biases
No horse has emerged from the inside five stalls to win the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes since 2015. A higher draw has been beneficial in recent renewals, but it is worth seeing if any races earlier in the day suggest an alternative draw would be better.
Queen Elizabeth II Stakes Odds of Past 10 Winners
Three favourites have been successful in the last ten years, though there has now been a five-year drought since 2019. That said, Baaeed was a 2/1 shot in 2021 when second in the market, so short-priced runners have not been averse to winning in that time.
