Ascot — Full result summary (20 June 2026)

Key events and winners

Orthodox finished strongly to win the Norfolk Stakes, with longshot El Floridita running a huge race to take second (150/1). In the staying division Giavellotto just got the better of Kalpana in the Hardwicke, while Almeraq produced one of the day’s biggest shocks, digging deep to take the Group 1 Jubilee at 25/1. The Jersey belonged to Thesecretadversary, who drifted right under pressure but stayed on to hold off Take Charge Star. The big Heritage Handicap, the Wokingham, went to Double Rush after a late tussle, and Lost Boys landed the Golden Gates after a smart late move. The marathon Queen Alexandra was won by Illinois, who outstayed French Master close home.

Non-runners & late withdrawals

Several horses were withdrawn or declared non-runners: Powerful Glory was a vet’s certificate (lame); Billecart was also withdrawn with a vet’s certificate (lame); Caburn was withdrawn as the connections judged the ground unsuitable (self certificate); Accredit was a non-runner on account of temperature (self certificate).

Overall it was a day of upsets and narrow margins at Ascot: the big story was Almeraq’s Group 1 success at 25/1 and the eye-catching second for El Floridita in the Norfolk at 150/1. Several non-runners altered race shapes and likely affected tactics — connections will take positives from brave displays by long-priced horses while favourites and high-profile contenders will go back to the drawing board after tight finishes.

Racecourse Guide

Founded in 1711 by Queen Anne, Ascot is Britain’s and arguably the world’s most famous racecourse. Although the Berkshire course plays host to a number of top-class National Hunt fixtures, it is on the Flat that it has earned its reputation worldwide with the Royal Meeting in June providing five days of the best racing anywhere on the planet. The combination of the quality of racing, stunning fashion and Royal Processions that take place on each of the four days, stands this meeting apart from any other. A galloping, right-handed track, Ascot provides a stiff test for horses, which can become exceptionally testing in soft ground, especially on the jumps course, which hosts such races as the Clarence House Chase and Ascot Chase.

Dining, Hospitality & Facilities

For a finer, premium experience there are plenty of hospitality options available. There are two restaurants to choose from on normal Ascot racedays – ON 5 restaurant and the Parade Ring Restaurant. However, for Royal Ascot, there are multiple restaurants to choose, depending on which enclosure you are in:

Royal Enclosure:

  • The Veranda
  • The Sandringham
  • Parade Ring
  • The Old Press Room
  • Wyndham Club
  • Windsor Forest
  • Holyroodhouse
  • Trackside
  • Panoramic

Queen Anne Enclosure:

  • On 5
  • The Gallery
  • The Furlong
  • The Lawn Club
  • Pavilion
  • Old Paddock

Village Enclosure:

If you’re part of a bigger group and are looking for a bit more privacy the racecourse also offers private boxes or loges for hire. The loges offer a private space for up to 15 people and offer exemplary views of the racing. There are three different options to choose from in the Private Boxes (Silver, Gold + Platinum), whilst there are also different options available for Royal Ascot.

Tickets

There are two different enclosures to choose from at Ascot, the Queen Anne Enclosure and the King Edward VII Enclosure. The former is the cheaper option, with the latter having access to premier bars and restaurants. Both enclosures offer excellent viewing angles for the racing.

During Royal Ascot, there are four different enclosure to choose from:

  • Royal Enclosure
  • Queen Anne Enclosure
  • Village Enclosure
  • Windsor Enclosure

The Royal Enclosure is the most prestigious, with the Queen Anne Enclosure also a formal option. The Village and Windsor enclosures have more of a relaxed atmosphere.

The Effect of the Draw

It used to be thought that low numbers were best on the straight course whatever the ground, but that’s no longer true. The draw doesn’t make a lot of difference on the round course, except in races with big fields, where high numbers are best. Increasingly in big field handicaps on the straight course, the winner will come from where the pace is in the race, over any defining draw biases.
