Today's Gowran Park Tips, Racecards And Results
Gowran Park — Daily Summary (01 June 2026)
The meeting at Gowran Park on 1 June 2026 was contested on Yielding (Good to Yielding in places) and produced a number of notable outcomes. The biggest surprise of the day came in the KCLR 96FM Apprentice Handicap where 50/1 outsider Real Petite stayed on to lead inside the final furlong. Joseph Patrick O’Brien’s yard took a couple of the feature victories (Obscenity and Sweet Baby Zou), Mrs John Harrington also enjoyed a productive day (Thrifty Of Digby and Confused), and Richard Hannon provided the highlight in the Gowran Classic with Bunyola Bay. Several late withdrawals and declarations of “unsuitable ground” affected the classic, and reserves were used in the Sonix Entertainment Handicap.
Raceday notes
Real Petite’s success at 50/1 was the standout upset and will be the headline story from the card. Thrifty Of Digby held on by a head in the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Fillies Handicap after a sustained duel, while Bunyola Bay made all in the Gowran Classic and drew clear when asked. Pliny was pulled up in the Ladies Day Handicap (Div I) and a number of non-runners and “unsuitable ground” declarations reshaped several races; reserves featured in the Sonix Entertainment Handicap before Obscenity ran on to take the race.

Racecourse Guide
Gowran Park is a right-handed, undulating course of around one mile and four furlongs. It has a three-furlong home straight with a one furlong run-in after jumping the last. An uphill climb to the finishing post can put the emphasis on stamina when the ground rides soft.
The fences are not particularly daunting but the undulations can get horses on and off the bridle. The hurdles track is on the inside of the chase course so is the tighter of the two. Despite the uphill finish, horses who race prominently usually do well here.
The course underwent an extensive development programme supported by Horse Racing Ireland in 2003 including a new Grandstand. Gowran Park was officially classified a Grade 1 National Hunt course in 2006, reflecting the quality of the jump racing at the track.
Dining, Hospitality & Facilities
Hospitality at Gowran Park starts with the Clubhouse on the top floor of the Grandstand. It has stunning view across the racecourse to the Blackstairs Mountains and Mount Leinster. The Clubhouse is open 7 days a week from April to September and Wednesday to Sunday from October to March.
There is a large function room for events and celebrations and reservations should be made well in advance for the biggest race days. The Thyestes Bar on the ground floor and the Blinkers Bar on the first floor are also available for private functions, subject to numbers and availability. Gowran Park also has everything covered from a tea and scone to main course meals at the Food Hall.
Gowran Park Racecourse is around 8 miles east of Kilkenny. There are regular trains to Kilkenny Station from Waterford and Dublin with a free shuttle bus running from Kilkenny on race days.
Tickets
You can book your racecourse admission tickets directly through the website with discounts for Seniors and Students. To book your hospitality race day package you can telephone the office on 056 7726225. Packages must be confirmed at least 24 hours in advance.
The Effect of the Draw
A low draw in races over seven furlongs is a definite advantage. The runners meet the bend quite soon after leaving the stalls and those drawn out wide can lose a lot of ground.
