Cheltenham Day 4 Races

Day four is the most anticipated of the Cheltenham Festival, with the Cheltenham Gold Cup the feature race on the card at 4:00pm with Galopin Des Champs bidding for glory. The Triumph Hurdle and Albert Bartlett Novices’ Hurdle are the two other Grade 1 races during the afternoon, while the County Hurdle is one of the toughest betting heats of the week.

1.20pm – Triumph Hurdle

Day 4 opens with the Triumph Hurdle. This is the Grade 1 championship for juveniles (horses aged four), who are at the beginning of their jumps careers. A wide open renewal of the Triumph Hurdle will see plenty line up with chances, but two prominent figures in the betting at Proactif and Selma De Vary. Minella Study, Macho Man and Maestro Conti all look classy four-year-olds and add more depth to the race.

2.00pm – County Hurdle

This race is usually a blur of action, not just because of the speed over the shortest trip, but because it often houses the joint biggest field at the Festival (26 runners). Some of the biggest handicap gambles have been landed here in recent years, so watch out for any runners subject to strong market support. The 2026 renewal will see a number of progressive handicappers line up and Murcia and Khrisma are two that have caught the eye this season. Karbau and I Started A Joke are another pair that could feature prominently.

2.40pm – Mares’ Chase

The Mares’ Chase had a new place on the schedule for the 2025, being run as race three on the final day of the Cheltenham Festival. Run over 2m 4f, it’s always a competitive contest with some strong Irish-trained runners lining up. Dinoblue was a superb winner of the Mares’ Chase last season and she’s well fancied to retain her crown. However, some smart mares will take her on with Paddy Power Gold Cup and Coral Gold Cup heroine Panic Attack looking to land another big pot, whilst Spindleberry is a top notch chaser as well.

3.20pm – Albert Bartlett Novices’ Hurdle

The Albert Bartlett Novices’ Hurdle directly precedes the big one, with future Gold Cup hopefuls often competing. Doctor Steinberg won impressively at Leopardstown during the Dublin Racing Festival and is a leading fancy for the 2026 renewal. Thedeviluno looks a progressive staying handicapper and is well fancied, Sortudo and I’ll Sort That add more potential depth to the race.

4.00pm – Cheltenham Gold Cup

The Gold Cup itself takes place in the centre of the card. Run over an often gruelling 3m2f, it is the utmost test of stamina, jumping and bravery at the Festival. Inothewayurthinkin looks to win back-to-back Cheltenham Gold Cups, but a hugely competitive field line up. King George VI Chase hero The Jukebox Man and last year’s Arkle hero Jango Baie are another brace of stars entered.

4.40pm – Hunter Chase

The Hunter Chase, the third and final race for amateur riders, takes place after the Gold Cup over the same course. It is the most prestigious race of its nature in Britain. Wonderwall is a leading contender for the 206 renewal, as he looks to retain the title. Its On The Line has long been one of the premier hunter chasers and is prominent in the betting, whilst Panda Boy and Stattler are two proven stayers lining up.

5.20pm – Martin Pipe Conditional Jockeys’ Handicap Hurdle

The Martin Pipe Handicap Hurdle for conditional jockeys is the final contest. In the past, some big names have been unleashed from down the pecking order of their respective stables. A hugely competitive renewal of the Martin Pipe will conclude the 2026 festival and Rock Dino, A Pai De Nom and The Passing Wife could be three challengers for the crown.
