Epsom Derby Horse Entries & Selections

There’s a long entry process for the Epsom Derby, as months before the race takes place owners and trainers will enter their horses for the iconic Classic. Then as the race gets nearer the numbers are whittled down until the final declarations are made for the race two days before it takes place.

A maximum field of 20 horses can run in the Epsom Derby and it’s often that a lot of them are available at huge odds for what is always a contest awash with quality. There will be some strong fancied favourites, as well as some big-priced outsiders looking to cause a shock.

We will have top tipsters Andrew Mount and Matty Sutcliffe to provide their best bets for the 2024 Epsom Derby here.

Which Trainers Have Historically Had the Most Success in the Epsom Derby?

One man has dominated the Epsom Derby in recent times and that’s Aidan O’Brien, who has amassed a stunning nine wins in the Classic event. Saddling his first winner of the race back in 2001 with the mighty Galileo, the master of Ballydoyle has gone on to saddle the winner on nine occasions with the likes of Australia (2014), Auguste Rodin (2023) and, most recently, City Of Troy (2024) all claiming victory in the race.

Major figures like John Gosden, Sir Henry Cecil, Sir Michael Stoute and Vincent O’Brien have all tasted Epsom Derby glory down the years, but no man has matched the heroics of Aidan O’Brien, who continues to deliver on the biggest stage of them all.
