Premier League Relegation – Who Are The Favourites?
We look at the leading candidates for Premier League relegation during the 2026/27 season.
Hull City
Promoted via the Championship play-offs, Hull City are red-hot favourites to be relegated back to the second tier. Sergei Jakirovic’s side will certainly step up significantly from what they showed in the Championship, and with very few resources available to them compared to some of the Premier League big-hitters then it could be a very long season.
Ipswich Town
Ipswich Town earned promotion under Kieran McKenna, but with their inspirational boss stepping aside then it will be Gary O’Neil’s job to deal with life in the Premier League. The Tractor Boys have some talented personnel within their ranks, but this gargantuan step up will be a tough ask.
Coventry City
Frank Lampard’s Coventry City were the dominant side in the Championship and they stormed to title glory with a few games to go. Now, the Sky Blues have a whole new test ahead of them, as they look to get their squad from last season stepping up and challenging at the highest level. A quality outfit under Lampard, they are the most likely promoted team to stay up, according to the betting.
Sunderland
Sunderland were one of the surprise packages of last season, as the Black Cats finished a stunning seventh. Regis Le Bris’ side will be looking to replicate that performance this season, but it’s going to be hard to deliver the same results again this season. Having recruited well following their Championship promotion two seasons ago, Sunderland will need a strong start to fend off relegation fears.
Premier League Relegation Outsiders
We take a look at those away from the top of the betting that could be challenging the drop this seasaon…
Leeds
A sparkling end to last season saw Leeds comfortably avoid relegation. With the fortress that is Elland Road often being the catalyst to picking up Premier League points, the Yorkshire club will be hoping their strong home record can continue.
Fulham
Fulham faltered in the closing months of last season, but did finish 11th. The Cottagers have become top-flight mainstays in recent seasons, but with teams around them strengthening then they could be facing a relegation battle this season.
Tottenham
Avoiding the drop on the last day of the season, Tottenham will be eager to fend off relegation fears this season. Roberto De Zerbi’s arrival secured their Premier League status and they have been spending big in the summer to avoid a similar campaign again. Around a 40/1 chance for relegation, Spurs will be looking for a top-half finish this season, and not a bottom six berth.
