Premier League Title – Who Are The Favourites?
We look at the top four favourites to win the 2026/27 Premier League title in what looks a fiercely competitive season.
Arsenal
Arsenal shook off a 22-year hoodoo to win their fourth Premier League title. Mikel Arteta’s men were forced to work until the final week of the season for glory, but ultimately kicked clear for a seven-point margin of victory. With nearest rivals Manchester City saying goodbye to Pep Guardiola, Arteta will be confident his more settled regime can cope with the pressure of being champions. Injuries and fitness could be a worry after a gruelling campaign involving the World Cup for many of their starting players.
Manchester City
Manchester City begin a Premier League season without Guardiola in the dugout for the first time in over a decade. They finished fourth that season under Manuel Pellegrini, though back then there was no Erling Haaland or Rodri to call upon. Those two superstars will have to be at their best to win a first title in three years as Enzo Maresca begins his spell in charge of the Citizens.
Liverpool
A new era at Liverpool dawns with Andoni Iraola in charge for this season. Title winning manager Arne Slot was sacked after a devastatingly disappointing 2025/26 campaign which saw them slip to fourth after spending north of £400 million on their squad. Iraola earned significant praise at Bournemouth and will have to steer the expensive ship on which Florian Wirtz and Alexander Isak have to deliver.
Manchester United
Just below Liverpool in the betting are arch rivals Manchester United. The Ruben Amorim experiment ended halfway through the previous league season. Michael Carrick provided the steady hand required as United impressed in the second half of the season to finish third. Debates will now arise as to whether Carrick can succeed in the permanent job where Ole Gunnar Solskjaer underwhelmed.
Premier League Title Outsiders & Dark Horses
With this season looking as open as any in the Premier League era, we look at some plausible underdogs in the 2026/27 title race.
Chelsea
Like Liverpool and Manchester City, Chelsea fans can look forward to a new season and a new man at the helm. Perhaps more so than their rivals, Blues fans are excited at Xabi Alonso’s presence for this term. Alonso did not succeed at Real Madrid, but he was heralded a hero at Bayer Leverkusen and could prove a difference maker in the transfer market. A reformed Chelsea side could be a potent one.
Tottenham
For a team that has finished 17th in each of the past two league seasons, it feels ridiculous to include them in a “dark horses” section. However, Tottenham’s form improved enough under Roberto De Zerbi, while huge signings have already been made at significant expense in Sandro Tonali and Mateus Fernandes. They will have to pay off to appease the fans baying for an improved showing.
Aston Villa
Fourth in 2025/26, Aston Villa were briefly mentioned as title contenders in December after beating Arsenal at Villa Park. Their second half was less convincing and sales of Youri Tielemans and Morgan Rogers will discourage fans. Nevertheless, Unai Emery remains one of the best coaches in the division, even more so now that top teams have been chopping and changing.
