It is also worth looking at jockey/trainer stats last 14 days as the rider is often just as important as the trainer.
Up-and-Coming Trainers to Look Out For
We pick out some of the up-and-coming jumps trainers to look out for during the 2025/2026 season. All will have goals of claiming Group wins and big race success, but these few names are certainly worth watching over the coming months.
James Owen
James Owen has trained over 100 winners on the flat in 2025, but is just as up-and-coming when it comes to sending out jumps runners. Between April and November, he had also sent out 60 National Hunt winners, getting his runners out at regular intervals and regularly reaping the rewards. Burdett Road and East India Dock were two flag-bearers for him in 2024/25 and further gems may well be unearthed later on this campaign.
Mickey Bowen
Taking over from his father Peter for the 2025/26 jumps season, Mickey Bowen has got off to a fast start, with his 50th winner imminent before Christmas. 19 of those have been ridden by champion jockey brother Sean while Mickey has already shown his talent for training horses for winning runs: Art Of Diplomacy had won five of seven races by the end of October to ensure Bowen sat fifth in the British Trainers’ Championship through mid-November.
Harry Derham
Now in his fourth season as a trainer rather than taking the reins himself, Derham’s career strike rate sits at an immensely healthy 24% three years on from his saddling his first runner. Brentford Hope has carried his name with distinction over hurdles in recent years, but after weather enforced a prolonged closure of his gallops during 2024/25, it is likely the best of his runners from last season may be able to scale even greater heights this term.
Cian Collins
One of Ireland’s bright younger trainers, Cian Collins has the overwhelming shadows of Willie Mullins and Gordon Elliott to contend with. However, the 27-year-old has already sent out his first Cheltenham Festival winner courtesy of Jazzy Matty in the 2025 Grand Annual. 13 winners from 77 travelling runners to Great Britain show he is adept at preparing away raiders and his handicap entrants for Cheltenham 2026 are worth noting.
