The Coronation Stakes can often be a race that sees the cream rise to the top and in the last ten runnings of the Group 1 contest there have been four winning favourites. However, Royal Ascot 2025 provided a huge shock when 33/1 shot Cercene won this race.

This contest often attracts a relatively small field, so there’s rarely any draw bias, but horses have to be rated fairly highly and eight of the last ten winners have been rated 110 or higher.

Coronation Stakes History

First run in 1840, the Coronation Stakes may not be regarded as one of the premier Group 1 races during Royal Ascot, but it still attracts a stellar cast each year and some top notch three-year-old fillies have claimed victory in the race.

Promoted to Group 1 status in 2008 it has continued to blossom and stars such as Winter (2017), Inspiral (2022) and Tahiyra (2023) have bounded to glory and etched their names on the illustrious roll of honour.
