Aintree, Hexham and Fontwell stage jumps racing on Friday before Newcastle takes over under the lights. Andrew Mount has a brace of selections for the action on November 6, as he heads to Hexham and Newcastle for his best bets of the day.
2.10 Hexham – Scarface (1pt win – 9/2 generally)
Scarface pulled up at Ffos Las on last month’s reappearance but that was over 3m on soft ground and he simply didn’t see it out. Joe Tizzard’s nine-year-old has form figures of 42PP (0-4) over trips of 2m6f or further and while he was runner-up in last season’s Badger Beer at Wincanton (3m1f), he weakened to finish almost ten lengths behind the winner.
He drops back to 2m4f on decent ground today and though a sharper track would have been preferable, he’s likely to be prominent in a race lacking obvious pace angles and the drop from Class 2 to Class 3 level will help.
7.00 Newcastle – Lord Abama (1pt e/w – 11/1 bet365, 10/1 generally with the other firms paying first four)
The Michael Dods-trained Lord Abama has only ever won at Thirsk (three times) or Newcastle (three times) and he recorded a useful time for the grade according to Proform’s speed figures when prevailing by a head under Jack Callan at odds of 11-1 on October 20th.
The veteran’s record immediately following a win reads 14152 (2-5), with the fourth place by just three-quarters of a length and the runner-up effort by half a length. The wind is behind them at Newcastle today which will aid his front-running style, he looks well drawn in stall 10 and young Callan keeps the ride.
The Champion apprentice has a good record when bidding to follow up on horses he rode to victory last time out, scoring on 15 of the 45 qualifiers (33.3%) for a profit of £15.96 at SP (+£31.69 at Betfair SP after 2% commission).
