Royal Ascot Day 1 Results
14:30 Queen Anne Stakes – Result

Despite an open market, the favourite delivered in the opener. Charyn had been a close second in the Lockinge but readily turned the form around with that race’s winner Audience. He held off the fast-finishing Docklands, with Maljoom running on for third.

Huge shocks all round in the Coventry, with the tricast paying out at £83,000, and the fourth home also trading at 40/1. Rashabar held on on the far side of the track, defeating two in the Wathnan Racing colours, Electrolyte and Columnist. Fourth home for each-way backers with extra places was Cool Hoof Luke.

For the second time in three years, Australia claimed the Group 1 sprint on day one, with Asfoora finishing fastest under Oisin Murphy. Regional chased him down the centre for second, overhauling favourite Big Evs, with Believing completing the first four home.

The 2,000 Guineas form was overturned in some style, with Rosallion produced through runners under a confident Sean Levey ride to defeat Ballydoyle representative Henry Longfellow. French 2,000 Guineas winner Metropolitan kept on for third, with Newmarket hero Notable Speech disappointing.

The early markets told the truth, with Israr proving his class to easily win the Listed Wolferton Stakes for John & Thady Gosden. Haunted Dream and Torito provided two more places for Wathnan Racing on the day in second and third.

A rare misstep by the market as the gamble blew out while one of the big drifters was a decisive winner. Said winner was Karl Burke’s Leovanni who had a comfortable margin in hand over Irish raider Mighty Eriu. Owner Christopher Hirst’s colours were carried to third and fourth by Maw Lam and Miss Lamai, as another juvenile contest was dominated by outsiders.

Having eluded him since 2020, Aidan O’Brien reclaimed the Queen’s Vase, sending out the one-two with favourite Illinois fending off stablemate Highbury. Both were always prominent, though Birdman ran on from the back to make it an Irish clean sweep of the places.

Showing the utmost tenacity, 2023 Derby winner Auguste Rodin clung on to win his sixth Group 1. Sent to the front early in the straight by Ryan Moore, his stamina kicked in to hold off the thrusts of French pair Zarakem and Horizon Dore.

Despite the enormous field, the favourite delivered in the famous Godolphin colours. With almost all bookmakers paying at least five places, Perotto, Daysofourlives and Holloway Boy rewarded each-way backers.

The near perfectly-bred Doha took what could be a very positive step forward in her racing career by overhauling the favourite, Hopeful, in the closing stages of the Kensington Palace Stakes. The front pair pulled comfortably clear of Victoria Falls, Rowayeh and Aurora Dawn, who all claimed minor honours.

14:30 Norfolk Stakes – Result

The first odds-on favourite of Royal Ascot was beaten, with Whistlejacket out of the places. Shareholder was a drifter on the day, but claimed another victory for Wathnan Racing, as Tropical Storm finished second on the far side and Arizona Blaze third in front of the stands.

Start stayer Kyprios regained the Gold Cup at Ascot in a titanic tussle with Trawlerman, who had beaten him on Champions’ Day at Ascot back in October. The pair drew well clear as they battled to the finish with Sweet William a back number in third.

Day 4 attendees witnessed a remarkable opener, as Fairy Godmother circumnavigated almost the entire field to justify leading the market. Simmering almost took advantage of the favourite’s troubled passage, while the winner’s stablemate Heavens Gate could not hold on from the front.

The eight-year-old Khaadem is still ageing like a fine wine and claimed back-to-back victories in the Group 1 Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee Stakes, once again being underestimated in the market. Swingalong could not live with his late burst, but held on for second ahead of Mill Stream.

Uxmal made staying the 2m5 1/2f trip of the Queen Alexandra Stakes seem like a stroll, routing his rivals in the final race of the meeting. Run For Oscar improved from third in the race in 2023 to second this year, with the previous season’s winner Dawn Rising a tired third.
Day 1 Royal Ascot Races
The Queen Anne Stakes
The Queen Anne Stakes is a Group 1 contest run over one mile and was landed last season by Triple Time, who sprung a 33/1 shock.
The Coventry Stakes
The Coventry Stakes is run over 6f exclusively for two-year-olds and the Group 2 prize was won by Aidan O’Brien’s favourite River Tiber (11/8).
The King’s Stand Stakes
The Group 1 contest run over the flying five is open to three-year-olds and up. Bradsell scored for the second year in a row at Royal Ascot in 2023, winning at 14/1 for Archie Watson.
The St James’s Palace Stakes
Paddington won this Group 1 contest for three-year-olds in 2023, beating 2,000 Guineas winner Chaldean at odds of 11/5.
The Ascot Stakes
The handicapping contest over the extended 2m4f went to jumps trainer Nicky Henderson and his mare Ahorsewithnoname, who won at 7/1.
The Wolferton Stakes
The Listed Wolfreton Stakes run over 1m2f is for horses aged four and up and was won last year in a minor shock by Royal Champion at 16/1.
The Copper Horse Stakes
A new handicap run over 1m6f was turned into a procession in 2023 by Willie Mullins’ former Triumph Hurdle winner Vauban.
Day 2 Royal Ascot Races
The Queen Mary Stakes
The Group 2 contest run over 5f is exclusively for two-year-olds only and was won last year by American raider Crimson Advocate.
The Queen’s Vase
Often used as a launchpad for bigger successes down the line, the Group 2 staying race has thrown up a host of future Group 1 winners and was won last year by Evens favourite Gregory.
The Duke of Cambridge Stakes
The Duke of Cambridge Stakes is a Group 2 contest run over the straight mile. Tom Clover claimed a big race win for the Rogues Gallery courtesy of 10/1 shot Rogue Millennium in 2023.
The Prince of Wales’s Stakes
A Group 1 event run over the 1m2f trip and a race which saw Mostahdaf break through in some style at the top level.
The Royal Hunt Cup
A tricky puzzle to often solve, The Royal Hunt Cup is run over the straight one mile and often attracts a large and ultra-competitive field each year. Jimi Hendrix turned the race into a procession at 22/1 last season.
The Windsor Castle Stakes
The Listed Windsor Castle Stakes is run over 5f and is open just to two-year-olds. Big Evs won in grand style on his way to Breeders’ Cup success last term.
The Kensington Palace Stakes
The Kensington Palace Stakes handicap was introduced for the first time in 2021 and this year saw a shock 40/1 winner, as Rising Star won for trainer Marco Botti and jockey Neil Callan.
Day 3 Royal Ascot Races
The Norfolk Stakes
The Group 2 contest over 5f is exclusive to two-year-olds and last year’s renewal served up a massive outsider, as Valiant Force won at 150/1.
The King George V Stakes
A very competitive three-year-old handicap which is run over 1m4f. 2023 provided a royal winner in the shape of 18/1 shot Desert Hero.
The Ribblesdale Stakes
The Group 2 contest run over 1m4f was one of plenty to be scalped by Aidan O’Brien, with 13/2 winner Warm Heart.
The Gold Cup
The famous Group 1 contest is run over 2m4f and has been won by some of racing’s most famous stayers over the years. The inexperienced Courage Mon Ami vaulted into the big time with his 15/2 win under Frankie Dettori in 2023.
The Britannia Stakes
A three-year-old handicap which is run over the straight mile and often attracts plenty of runners. Docklands was a well-fancied winner for Harry Eustace and Hayley Turner last year.
The Hampton Court Stakes
The Group 3 1m2f contest was won last year by Waipiro for Ed Walker at 7/1.
The Buckingham Palace Stakes
A fiercely competitive handicap which is run over 7f for three-year-olds and up. Witch Hunter was yet another massive price winner in 2023 at 50/1.
Day 4 Royal Ascot Races
The Albany Stakes
The Albany Stakes is run over 6f and is a Group 3 contest for the two-year-olds. Joseph O’Brien’s Porta Fortuna was the 2023 heroine.
The Commonwealth Cup
The Group 1 contest run over 6f threw up an impressive winner in last season’s renewal as Shaquille provided trainer Julie Camacho with a top level success at 9/1.
The Duke of Edinburgh Stakes
This 1m4f handicap provided a second winner on the day for Joseph O’Brien, with Okita Soushi scoring at 9/1.
The Coronation Stakes
Open to three-year-old fillies, The Coronation Stakes is a Group 1 race that is run over a mile. Odds-on favourite Tahiyra backed up her success in the Irish 1,000 Guineas in this race a year ago.
The Sandringham Stakes
Another tightly contested handicap which is run over one mile on the straight track. A race that is traditionally fiercely competitive, last year was no different as Coppice scored by a length under Frankie Dettori, justifying joint favouritism.
The King Edward VII Stakes
The King Edward VII Stakes is a Group 2 contest which is run over 1m4f for three-year-olds only. Often seen as Royal Ascot’s Derby equivalent, Epsom runner-up King Of Steel scored in fine style in 2023.
The Palace of Holyroodhouse Stakes
A 0-105 handicap over 5f exclusive to three-year-olds. The excellently-named Rhythm N Hooves won for Archie Watson and Hollie Doyle at 12/1 last season.
Day 5 Royal Ascot Races
Chesham Stakes
The Chesham Stakes is a Listed contest for juveniles and is staged over 7f. Snellen snared the prize for Ireland at 12/1 12 months ago.
Jersey Stakes
The Group 3 Jersey Stakes is run over 7f and saw an unusually big-priced winner for Ballydoyle, as Age Of Kings scored at 22/1.
Hardwicke Stakes
The Hardwicke Stakes is run over 1m4f and is a Group 2 contest. Former Group 1 winner Pyledriver dropped in class to score at 7/2 in 2023.
Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee Stakes
Regarded as one of the best sprint contests of the season, the Group 1 Diamond Jubilee Stakes (now re-named the Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee Stakes) is run over 6f and provided an almighty surprise for punters in 2023 as the veteran Khaadem finally broke through at Group 1 level at 80/1 under Jamie Spencer.
Wokingham Stakes
A notoriously difficult race to predict, the Wokingham Stakes is a 6f handicap contest that regularly attracts a decent field each year. The fearsome Archie Watson/Hollie Doyle partnership was in full flow again as stable debutant Saint Lawrence won at 22/1.
Golden Gates Stakes
The Golden Gates Stakes race has only recently been added to the Royal Ascot programme since 2021, and last year saw Burdett Road, who would go on to be a top juvenile hurdler, win at 20/1
Queen Alexandra Stakes
The longest race over the five days is the Queen Alexandra Stakes which is run over the extended 2m5f trip. Irish trainers have won six of the last ten renewals, including with Dawn Rising in 2023.
