Wolverhampton — Results: 5 October 2026

Wolverhampton produced a string of strong performances yesterday (5 October 2026), headlined by a treble for 15‑year‑old apprentice Billy Loughnane who partnered Solar Swing, Dreams Galore and Fille Etoile to victory. Clive Cox’s short‑priced Iron Dome (1/6) dominated the novice stakes, while the card finished on a dramatic note with a dead‑heat in the 20:30 Race & Rest Wolverhampton Holiday Inn Handicap between Charlie’s Cannon (22/1) and Grow Old With Me (8/1). Several horses were withdrawn or declared non‑runners for veterinary/sickness reasons during the afternoon and evening.

Notable jockey & trainer notes

Billy Loughnane enjoyed a standout afternoon with a treble (Solar Swing, Dreams Galore, Fille Etoile) while Clive Cox’s Iron Dome made short work of the Novice Stakes. Dead‑heat finishes are rare and yesterday’s shared success at 20:30 was one of the day’s talking points, combining a big price with a more fancied rival.

Withdrawals & non-runners

The following were declared non‑runners or withdrawn before their races:

  • Extended Credit — vet’s certificate (lame)
  • Flag Of Nations — self certificate (runny nose)
  • Bold Betty — vet’s certificate (lame)
  • Red Ashley — withdrawn (loose before start)
  • Glowchester — nasal discharge
  • Love Alive — off feed
  • Queue Dos — self certificate (not eaten up)

Quick summary

Wolverhampton’s Tapeta surface produced several decisive front‑running performances and a rare dead‑heat to round off the card. The meeting will be remembered for Loughnane’s treble and Clive Cox’s ultra‑short favourite Iron Dome. Owners and trainers will be pleased with several clearance runs, while connections of the non‑runners will hope for swift recoveries.

Racecourse Guide

Wolverhampton racecourse has been redeveloped into an exciting leisure venue hosting a remarkable eighty fixtures each year. The Lady Wulfruna Stakes is the most valuable race staged at the course, a fast-track qualifier for the All-Weather Championships. It guarantees the winner a free entry for the £1 million Finals Day.

The course was re-opened as Britain’s first floodlit racecourse in 1994 and now welcomes 120,000 visitors each year. Wolverhampton was also the first Tapeta surface to be used for racing in Europe. The racecourse is left handed and one mile in circumference. It is a very tight, oval track which favours nimble horses which like to race prominently.

Wolverhampton also favours course specialists, notably Stand Guard who won eleven times here and a record 28 times on the all-weather. His career began in 2007, eventually claiming his final victory as a thirteen-year-old ten years’ later.

Dining, Hospitality & Facilities

Wolverhampton boasts an impressive array of facilities. As well as having plentiful bars and restaurants, it also has an onsite hotel and a busy conference and exhibition centre. There are a range of hospitality packages on offer with fantastic views across the track. Wolverhampton’s Horizon Restaurant is set over three tiers of a stunning glass-fronted building while the Ringside Restaurant is a popular 400-seat dining area adjacent to the Parade Ring.

There are frequent trains to Wolverhampton Train Station from London, Birmingham and Manchester. The station is two miles from the track with frequent buses on all race days.

Tickets

Tickets can be booked in advance online, ranging from Grandstand Advance booking to Private Hospitality with the Break Out of the Boardroom package. The Grandstand booking includes access to public parks, eateries and betting outlets with views of the pre-parade ring, parade ring and of course the racing itself. The Private Hospitality packages are for groups of 12 to 32 and include a private suite with balcony views, private bar and afternoon tea.

The Effect of the Draw

Although Wolverhampton is a sharp track with a relatively short home straight, there is no discernible draw bias. If you are concerned about a high draw, you can usually predict where the early pace is likely to come from by studying the traits of your horse’s rivals.
