It’s a real mixed bag when looking at the age of the winner over the last two decades, as there’s been one five-year-old win in that time (Delta Work in 2018), but also the ten-year-old Buena Vista won his second Pertemps Final in 2011 which just highlights that an inexperienced horse on the up can win, as can a vastly experienced handicapper as well. The most popular age is both six and eight with that group attributing to six wins apiece, but on the whole there’s no real key trend to keep out for when looking at the age of recent winners.

Age Of Pertemps Final Winners In Last 20 Years

  • 5 – 1 winner
  • 6 – 6 winners
  • 7 – 3 winners
  • 8 – 6 winners
  • 9 – 3 winners
  • 10+ – 1 winners

Starting Price

Only two favourites have won the Pertemps Final in the last 20 years with Fingal Bay (9/2 fav in 2014) and Sire Du Berlais (4/1 fav in 2019) the only two to land the spoils when sent off market leader. There have been two 50/1 winners in the last two decades with Kadoun landing the prize in 2006 and Creon in 2004, but it seems it’s wise to look at those horses between 10/1 and 18/1. In the last 20 years there have been eight winners that fit in that starting price range. With huge fields going to post for the Pertemps Final it will always be a hugely competitive betting heat and the 2024 renewal should prove no different.

Starting Price Of Pertemps Final Winners In Last 20 Years

  • <5/1 – 2 winners
  • 5/1 to 10/1 – 5 winners
  • 11/1 to 18/1- 8 winners
  • 20/1 to 33/1 – 3 winners
  • 50/1+ – 2 winners

Weight Carried

An exhilarating handicap puzzle to work out, the Pertemps Final is fascinating to look at from a weight carrying perspective as the likes of Fingal Bay and Sire Du Berlais have carried a top weight of 11st 12lbs to victory, but there have been some winners down the other end of the handicap with Creon carrying 10st to victory way back in 2004. In more recent times it’s seen those carrying 11st or more land victory more frequently with six of the last 12 winners carrying that weight, while between 2004 and 2011 seven of the eight winners carried less than 11 stone.

Weight Carried By Pertemps Final Winners In Last 20 Years

  • <10st – 0 winners

  • 10st 7lbs to 11st – 8 winners
  • 11st 1lb to 11st 6lbs – 2 winners
  • >11st 6lbs – 5 winners
