Ayr Racecourse — Results (08 October 2026)
Heavy ground (officially HEAVY, soft in places, 7.0) made for a testing afternoon at Ayr, where seven races were completed and two trainers headed the winners’ list. Jim Goldie and the partnership of Michael & David Easterby both recorded two victories, while there was a late withdrawal when Myrrh was ruled out on veterinary grounds.
Key events and winners
Motawaared kicked off a strong day for the yard of Jim Goldie with a determined finish to take the Stella Artois Apprentice Handicap, following a rally from the rear. Ivan Furtado’s Alfa Blueburd edged out Sea Mirage in a photo-finish in the Menabrea Restricted Novice Stakes, the pair separated by a nose at the line. Cian Hughes provided Launch Time with a comfortable success in the Heverlee Handicap, and Michael & David Easterby enjoyed a double through Alpha Magic (Tennent’s Lager Handicap) and Stanage (San Miguel Handicap). Ey Up Its Jazz held on gamely in the Outcider Handicap after Myrrh was withdrawn, and Aighear finished the meeting in style, pulling clear late in the Magners Original Cider Handicap.
The heavy surface clearly played to the strengths of several runners; connections of Ey Up Its Jazz noted the gelding relished the testing conditions and that form looked improved. Withdrawals and veterinary checks were a feature of the day, with Myrrh officially reported out on a vet’s certificate.

Notes
Myrrh was declared a non-runner on veterinary grounds (bad scope). Ey Up Its Jazz was routine tested after the Outcider Handicap. The heavy surface was a clear influence on several performances and likely contributed to the form of runners who had shown a preference for testing ground.

Racecourse Guide
Recognised as the premier racecourse in Scotland and hosts regular flat and jump meetings. Its main highlights are the Scottish Grand National held in April and the Western Meeting on the Flat in September that features the Ayr Gold Cup. The left-handed course is approximately one and a half miles in circumference, and tends to suit long-striding gallopers, providing a searching test of stamina in rain-softened conditions.

There are two ticket options available at Ayr racecourse:
- Grandstand Enclosure. Gives access to the Grandstand and the Sports Bar on the ground floor of the Princess Royal Stand. The latter is seen as one of the top grandstand facilities in the United Kingdom. Also have access to the Parade Ring in this enclosure.
- Club Enclosure. Entitles you to access to all public on course facilities, including the Champagne Bar & Gardens. Also have access to view the Pre-Parade ring, as well as all the facilities that you get with a Grandstand ticket.

Over 5f and 6f, there is a preference for high drawn numbers.
