    Key events and winners

    Racing at Ayr on 27 July was run on GOOD TO FIRM ground (Good in places; watered; 8.6). Ed Walker and Kieran Shoemark combined for a notable double with Bymiddaytomorrow (14:15) and Empirical (16:15). Linda Perratt also trained a double courtesy of Samra Star (15:45) and Sixcor (16:45). Connor Beasley enjoyed a productive day in the plate division, taking the 14:45 and 15:15 contests.

    The biggest surprise came in the 15:45 handicap when Samra Star landed the prize at 25/1, while other solid winners included Mr Cool (7/2), Imperial Guard (13/8) and Royal Blaze (3/1). Several races were affected by late non-runners/self-certificates (notably Roaring Ralph, Rastnet, Obito, Supremissy and a number of runners in the closing handicap), which reduced field sizes in the later events.

    Racecourse Guide

    Recognised as the premier racecourse in Scotland and hosts regular flat and jump meetings. Its main highlights are the Scottish Grand National held in April and the Western Meeting on the Flat in September that features the Ayr Gold Cup. The left-handed course is approximately one and a half miles in circumference, and tends to suit long-striding gallopers, providing a searching test of stamina in rain-softened conditions.

    Tickets

    There are two ticket options available at Ayr racecourse:

    • Grandstand Enclosure. Gives access to the Grandstand and the Sports Bar on the ground floor of the Princess Royal Stand. The latter is seen as one of the top grandstand facilities in the United Kingdom. Also have access to the Parade Ring in this enclosure.  
    • Club Enclosure. Entitles you to access to all public on course facilities, including the Champagne Bar & Gardens. Also have access to view the Pre-Parade ring, as well as all the facilities that you get with a Grandstand ticket. 

    The Effect of the Draw

    Over 5f and 6f, there is a preference for high drawn numbers.
