Racecourse Guide

Set on a hilltop overlooking the famous Roman Spa town, Bath is a sharp, left-handed track which favours runners that are able to gain a prominent, early position. Two other factors that can come heavily into play are the swirling gusts of wind and the stiff, uphill finish. A difficult track for runners, riders and punters, this challenge only adds to the character of the course. Bath is the highest racecourse in the country, with no watering, so the ground tends to be very firm during dry spells.

Dining, Hospitality & Facilities

For a finer, premium experience there are multiple hospitality options available at Bath. These include The Roof Garden, The Paddock Pavilion and the Royal Crescent Restaurant. The latter offers a reserved table for the day, with a three-course à la carte menu.

For those wishing to have a more private dining experience, there is the option of the Private Boxes. All boxes offer unrivalled views, a buffet food service, hospitality admission and a private bar, as well as access to all public areas at the racecourse.

Tickets

There are three ticket options available at Bath racecourse:

  • Centre Course & Picnic Enclosure. Only available on selected fixtures but allows you to drive your car into the middle of the racecourse and choose a spot to enjoy a picnic. Limited betting facilities and bars are available here too.
  • Grandstand Enclosure & General Admission. Gives you access to the majority of the racecourse, including the paddock. Food outlets and bars are available, as well as betting facilities. Get close to the action, as you’re able to watch the racing along the final furlong of the track.
  • The Roof Garden. Offers stunning views of the racecourse and is the luxury option for racegoers. Access to the Bottega Terrazza restaurant, which offers a delectable Italian dining experience, along with plenty of prosecco.

The Effect of the Draw

Low numbers are favoured in races of 1m as the start is on a chute and the course turns left most of the way, but the advantage is minimal. The draw rarely has an effect in sprints, although those drawn very high in big fields can find trouble.
