The meeting at Catterick produced several notable performances under Good (Good to soft in places; 7.2) going. Inkberrow (1/3) dominated the 13:35 novice to win easily for Simon & Ed Crisford and Paul Mulrennan, while Lion’s Den (6/1) prevailed in a gripping finish in the restricted maiden, just holding off She Is Mighty. Hengest (9/2) powered home to win the 14:10 handicap ‘going away’, and It Just Takes Time (4/1) and Lexington Blitz (6/1) both produced strong late gains to take their respective contests. Brighton Boy, Woodstock and Gentle Warrior also took the honours in competitive handicaps. Several horses were withdrawn on ground or reported off colour (details below); no races were abandoned.
Race-by-race highlights
Lion’s Den dug deep to edge out She Is Mighty by a neck after a sustained duel in the EBF Restricted Maiden. Inkberrow set the standard in the novice, making all and shaking clear to win comfortably. Hengest came from the rear to lead inside the final furlong and won going away in the Download The Raceday Ready App Handicap. In the two William Hill Epic Boosts divisions, Brighton Boy and It Just Takes Time produced determined finishing bursts to take Div I and Div II respectively. Lexington Blitz recovered from a bump at the start to lead inside the last furlong and score readily in the Catterick Dash. Woodstock landed the Veterans’ handicap with a late move, and Gentle Warrior prevailed in a tight conclusion to the Future Stars apprentice contest.
Non-runners & withdrawals
Shaqra Queen was reported off colour and did not run in the 13:00. Byerley Lady and Poor Relation were declared unsuitable for the ground and withdrawn from the 13:35; Temple was also withdrawn as unsuitable for the ground from the 14:10. These were individual withdrawals — the scheduled races all went ahead.

Catterick Race Results
Catterick Racecourse in North Yorkshire stages both flat and National Hunt racing throughout the year. The biggest races at Catterick are the North Yorkshire Grand National over jumps and the Catterick Dash on the flat.
The flat meetings open with Easter Family Day at the start of April with the valuable Catterick Dash in October. There is also the popular Go Racing in Yorkshire Summer Festival in July and Ladies’ Day in August. The North Yorkshire Grand National takes place in January with special family days in August and a Go Racing In Yorkshire Winter Festival. The North Yorkshire Grand National is the longest race of the season at Catterick over a gruelling three and three-quarter miles. Catterick also hosts a traditional New Years’ Day meeting.

Racecourse Guide
Catterick has a reputation for being one of the friendliest racecourses in the UK with a relaxed atmosphere. It is a sharp, left handed undulating track of just over a mile. It tends to favour smaller, well balanced horses that like to race up with the pace. Previous course form is definitely a positive factor at Catterick because the undulating surface does not suit every horse.
It can be difficult to make up ground here in both flat and jumps races. The fences are not particularly testing and the good drainage here ensures that most meetings are staged on decent ground. When the going is soft, jockeys usually bring their mounts over towards the stands’ rail in search of better ground.

Dining, Hospitality & Facilities
There are several hospitality options at Catterick including the Restaurant Package in the Winning Streak Restaurant, a Traditional Afternoon Tea or fine dining in one of the private boxes. The Winning Streak Restaurant is between the track and the parade ring with windows on both sides providing outstanding views.
Light afternoon tea can be added to the Restaurant Package and includes freshly brewed Yorkshire tea, a scone with strawberry jam and clotted cream, and mini cakes. Private suite options include the Director’s Box which overlooks the winning post and has a seating capacity of 24. Trackside Marquees can be tailored to suit your needs for larger parties of 80 or more guests.
The nearest railway station to Catterick is Darlington, 15 miles from the track. Arriva runs a regular bus service from Darlington Railway Station to Richmond, and Hodgsons service 34 between Darlington and Richmond stops at Catterick Bridge, just outside the main grandstand. The racecourse shuttle bus no longer runs, so otherwise pre-book a local taxi.
Tickets
You can book your Catterick admission tickets online for the Grandstand and Paddock Enclosure or Course Enclosure. The latter is situated in the centre of the track with numerous food and drink facilities. There are special advance prices for groups of 10 or more booking Grandstand and Paddock Enclosure tickets, and accompanied under-18s go free.
The Effect of the Draw
Horses drawn low have an advantage in six furlong races at Catterick on good ground. However, this is reversed in soft ground when the favoured stands’ rail means it is a definite advantage to be drawn high.
