Ffos Las — Raceday summary (17 June 2026)
A soft surface (SOFT 4.6) at Ffos Las yesterday produced a day of attritional racing, with several horses declared unsuitable for the going and one non-runner recorded. Despite the testing ground, the card produced a number of decisive victories: Sonic Si, Tango Hotel, Gelato, Great Dream, Quick Turn, Lady Magu and Liveinthelight all took their respective contests in convincing fashion.
Notable talking points included a number of withdrawals listed as “unsuitable ground” and the declaration of U S S Constitution as a non-runner following a self-certificate (temperature). On the track, William Haggas’s Great Dream was impressive in the RHN Travel Handicap, edging clear inside the final two furlongs to score comfortably, while Sonic Si battled on to lead inside the final furlong in the Trustmark Apprentice Handicap. Gelato and Quick Turn both showed resolve when hanging slightly but finding enough in the final furlong to hold on.

Brief notes
Several runners were withdrawn as “unsuitable ground” before their races, which had an impact on early betting and race shape. U S S Constitution was a non-runner following a self-certificate for temperature. Trainers and jockeys coped well with the testing surface — Darragh Keenan rode a confident front-running ride on Great Dream, while Matthew Lloyd Slater got the job done on Sonic Si in the opener. Keep an eye on horses that ran well on the soft going today for future entries at similar venues.

Ffos Las Race Results
Ffos Las in Camarthenshire, West Wales was the first new jumping track to be built in the UK for 80 years when it opened in 2009. It now stages the prestigious Welsh Champion Hurdle and the West Wales National. There is also some competitive flat racing and the popular Christmas Party Race day in mid-December.
GG will provide detailed Ffos Las race results as soon as the jockeys have weighed in. We also list all of yesterday’s results and you can see the complete finishing order and SP returns by clicking on each race title.
Racecourse Guide
Ffos Las is the UK’s newest racecourse to stage jump racing and has been something of a success story. A flat, fairly galloping left-handed course of around a mile and a half, it also hosts flat racing fixtures so is kept busy throughout the year.
There is a long home straight of around half a mile so there are rarely valid excuses for beaten horses on the flat. Ffos Las has a chute for five and six furlong races. There is a short run-in after the last for jumps races and the fences are generally considered fair. The going at Ffos Las can get very testing which puts the emphasis firmly on stamina.
The biggest race of the season at Ffos Las is the Welsh Champion Hurdle which takes place on a Saturday in October. The race was formerly staged at Chepstow and was originally a level weights contest but a decline in field sizes eventually led to it being changed to a handicap.
The race was moved to Ffos Las in 2011 and has enjoyed something of a revival in recent years. The 2018 race was won by Silver Streak, trained by Welsh Trainer Evan Williams. The grey went on to finish third to Espoir D’Allen in the 2019 Champion Hurdle at Cheltenham.
Dining, Hospitality & Facilities
Ffos Las boasts an exceptional range of hospitality packages. The race day restaurants provide a stylish dining experience with top quality cuisine and outstanding views overlooking the racecourse. The eight private suites and boxes can be reserved with access to all public areas and accommodation from 15 to 60 racegoers. There are also marquee hospitality packages for selected race days.
There are frequent buses between Llaneli and Carmarthen which stop at the entrance to Ffos Las Racecourse. A regular shuttle bus is available on race days between nearby Llaneli Railway Station and the course.
Tickets
As well as the major race days, Ffos Las stages several evening meetings followed by live music and there is a popular Ladies Day in August. The late July/early August evening meeting offers free admission for a maximum of four tickets per household! Tickets can be reserved online from General Admission through to complete raceday hospitality packages.
The Effect Of The Draw
There is no discernible draw bias at Ffos Las, perhaps owing to the fact that the track is nice and wide and provides a fair test for horses drawn in most positions. It is worth noting that jockeys do tend to favour the centre of the course in soft ground.
