Hamilton Race Results
Hamilton stages flat racing from May through to late September/early October. The most valuable race of the season at Hamilton is the Listed Glasgow Stakes in mid-July. Big Hamilton handicaps include the Lanark Silver Bell, one of the oldest sporting trophies in the world, and the Scottish Stewards’ Cup.
GG provide detailed Hamilton race results as quickly as possible. The winner, placed horses and SP returns are published immediately after the weigh in has been completed. This is updated with the complete finishing order and all of the relevant details including SP and Tote returns.
Racecourse Guide
Hamilton Park is a popular flat racing track 10 miles south of Glasgow in Scotland. It is a sharp, undulating right handed track with a steep climb up to the winning post. In testing conditions the jockeys tend to take their horses to the far rail and it is a course that requires the rider to be a good judge of pace. Free running horses can be very difficult to restrain on the downhill run at Hamilton and can struggle to get home in soft ground.
The Glasgow Stakes was run at York in May until 2004 and was used as a stepping-stone to the Epsom Derby by Sir Henry Cecil’s Commander in Chief in 1993. The colt was an impressive winner at Epsom and followed up in the Irish Derby at the Curragh. Sir Michael Stoute also won the York race with Derby contenders Foyer (1994) and Dr Massini (1996). The Glasgow Stakes moved to Hamilton in 2006 and to mid-July in 2011, and subsequent King George winner Postponed won it here in 2014 for Luca Cumani.
Dining, Hospitality & Facilities
Hamilton Park now has its own on-site hotel, the 118-bedroom Hampton by Hilton Hamilton Park, which overlooks the racecourse. The venue is now an award-winning 5 star visitor attraction and hosts marquee weddings, corporate dinners and family celebrations. There are 18 stylish suites to choose from including two permanent marquees.
Hamilton’s function suites can accommodate from 50 to 300 guests with a huge range of packages available. These start from a finger buffet or BBQ to a sit down meal and each package can be tailored to meet your requirements. Race day packages include fine dining at Duke’s Restaurant with spectacular views across the course. The Parade Ring and Club Lawn marquees are available on selected race days or for private hire.
Hamilton West railway station is about a mile from the racecourse, a 15 to 20 minute walk, with direct trains from Glasgow Central. Rail travellers arriving from Edinburgh Waverley should change at Motherwell for Hamilton.
Tickets
Hamilton staged the first ever evening meeting held in Britain on Glasgow Fair weekend in July 1947. The course remains a popular venue for evening meetings, none more so than Saints and Sinners Night, a charity fundraising event in June. The Lanark Silver Bell is also held on a race night in late August.
You can book your tickets in advance on the website. Special packages include the Overton Farm Grill Package with a burger or vegetarian alternative or the Barrel & Stone Family Pizza Package. The latter provides admission for 2 adults and 2 under 18’s with pizzas and soft drink vouchers.
The Effect of the Draw
Statistics appear to show a slight draw bias in favour of horses drawn low at Hamilton. This is more discernible on soft ground in the sprint races but low numbers fare best over a mile on any ground because of the sharp right hand turn into the straight.
