Huntingdon Race Results
Huntingdon is a National Hunt track in Cambridgeshire which hosts 18 meetings from October through to May. The big Huntingdon races are the Grade 2 Peterborough Chase and the Listed Sidney Banks Memorial Novices’ Hurdle.
The Peterborough Chase is over an extended two and a half miles and has consistently attracted some of the top chasers in training. In 1991 Sabin Du Loir famously defeated Cheltenham Gold Cup winners Norton’s Coin (1990) and Desert Orchid (1989). Edredon Bleu won the Peterborough Chase on a record four occasions between 1998 and 2001 while three times Cheltenham Gold Cup winner Best Mate was successful in 2002. Other notable winners include Wayward Lad (1983) and One Man (1997).
The Sidney Banks Memorial Novices’ Hurdle takes place in February and is a significant Cheltenham trial. Famous winners include French Holly (1998) and Shishkin (2020). Huntingdon also stages regular Family fun days, a Ladies evening in May, a winter Ladies Day in November and a traditional Boxing Day meeting.
GG publish Huntingdon race results within moments of the weigh in being confirmed. The winner, placed horses and SP returns are displayed as quickly as possible on Today’s Results & Racecards page. This is later updated with the complete finishing order and Tote returns which can be accessed by clicking on each race title.
Racecourse Guide
A tight, right-handed track, Huntingdon undoubtedly favours those horses that have the ability to lie handy. It has a circuit of about a mile and a half with nine fences to be jumped on each circuit. Former flat-racers do well here, particularly on faster ground. The Open Ditch directly in front of the stands provides a real spectacle for racegoers.
Huntingdon is one of the flattest tracks in the country which makes it an ideal introduction for a promising novice. Despite being a sharp track, trainers are not shy of running their best National Hunt bred horses here. The highlight of the season is the Peterborough Chase in November and there are many excellent meetings per year. It is often an early season target for horses likely to run in the Ryanair Chase at Cheltenham and is also a stepping stone to the King George VI Chase at Kempton Park on Boxing Day.
Dining, Hospitality & Facilities
Huntingdon provides a choice of excellent hospitality and dining packages to enhance your race day experience. You can book a table at the award-winning Peterborough Chase Restaurant or one of the private boxes overlooking the track. The Classic Experience offers a glass of sparkling wine on arrival and a 2-course seated meal, finger or fork buffet. The Premier Experience includes a glass of house champagne on arrival, a 3 course meal and private waiting service.
Huntingdon Racecourse is 20 miles north east of Cambridge and 22 miles south of Peterborough. Huntingdon Station is on the main line from Kings Cross London and only two and a half miles from the track. A courtesy car service is available on race days.
