Leopardstown Race Results

Leopardstown is undoubtedly one of the top three racecourses in Ireland, rivalled only by The Curragh and Fairyhouse. It stages top quality flat and National Hunt racing throughout the year and is home to some of the most important races in Ireland. There are currently 23 race days at Leopardstown during the year which feature 13 Grade 1 races over jumps and two Group 1 races on the flat.

Leopardstown’s flagship race on the level is the Group 1 Irish Champion Stakes, one of the most prestigious middle-distance races in the world. The other Group 1 is the Matron Stakes for fillies and mares over a mile. National Hunt season highlights include the Grade 1 Irish Champion Hurdle in January, the Irish Gold Cup in February and the Savills Chase at the four-day Christmas Festival, now established as a showpiece event for Ireland’s leading Cheltenham contenders. Leopardstown also holds regular evening meetings during the summer followed by live entertainment.

GG publishes the winner, placed horses and SP returns for Leopardstown races as quickly as possible. This is later updated with the full finishing order and Tote returns, all of which can be accessed by clicking on each race title. We also retain all of yesterday’s UK and Ireland results as well as today’s non-runners, a complete A-Z of today’s runners and tomorrow’s racecards.

Racecourse Guide

Leopardstown is a wide, left-handed galloping track of 1m 6f with a gradual incline up the home straight. It is widely regarded as one of the fairest tracks in Ireland and there are rarely excuses for beaten horses. It is possible to make all the running at Leopardstown but the jockeys must keep a bit up their sleeve for the uphill finish.

On the National Hunt course, there are three fences in quick succession in the back straight which favours fast, accurate jumpers. The hurdles course is on the inside of the chase track and therefore the sharper of the two. Leopardstown’s impressive array of top races naturally attracts the very best horses, trainers and owners from around the world and provides the very best that Ireland has to offer in this sport.

Dining, Hospitality & Facilities

Leopardstown is a Grade 1 racecourse situated about 6 miles south of Dublin city centre. It was opened in 1888 on land in Foxrock and has undergone considerable improvements in recent years. The racecourse facilities now include a golf course and club house as well as shops, restaurants and bars.

Hospitality packages include the 1888 Restaurant which is located on the second floor of the Grandstand. You can enjoy stunning views of the parade ring on one side and the race track on the other. There are also fine dining experiences on offer at The Pavilion and the Panoramic Suite. Private Suites are available for booking on the upper level of the Grandstand with a choice of sizes to accommodate small or large groups.

Dublin Airport is about one hour from the track by car with a regular bus service on race days. There is a tram service from Dublin city centre to Sandyford on race days which leaves only a short walk to the racecourse.

Tickets

You can pre-book Leopardstown race day packages and daily admission tickets online. These start from general admission tickets with discounts for seniors and students, through to premium level access. The latter can sell out well in advance of the big festival meetings.

The Effect of the Draw

A low draw is definitely an advantage in races over six furlongs, although this does seem to be nullified when the going is soft. Low to middle numbers enjoy a slight advantage in races over seven furlongs or a mile.
