Listowel Race Results
Listowel in County Kerry is a flat, left handed course that stages both flat and National Hunt racing. Racing at Listowel dates back to 1858. The seven-day Harvest Festival in September features the valuable Guinness Kerry National over three miles. Notable previous winners include Dorans Pride (1997) and subsequent Grand National winner Monty’s Pass (2002). The track also hosts a 2-day meeting in June which was introduced in 2005, replacing the previously staged spring meetings.

Racecourse Guide
Seven days of the year Listowel comes alive for their version of the Galway festival and they do it just as well! Slowly but surely, this week-long bonanza in September is gaining traction amongst the racing community and indeed, curious fun-lovers from in and around the county of Kerry. It was extended from 4 days to 5 in 1977 and finally to 7 days in 2002.
Limerick is a fairly tight, oval track of just under a mile and a quarter and is in close proximity to the crowd which ensures an intimate buzz on race day. A cracking venue which attracts all of Ireland’s top trainers, riders and owners.
There is a short run-in of about two furlongs which suits speedy performers. Perhaps the best flat racers ever to appear at Listowel was Irish Derby and King George winner Alamshar. The Aga Khan’s colt won on his racecourse debut at the 2002 Harvest Festival.
Dining, Hospitality & Facilities
The first concrete stand was not erected here until 1957, followed by the Hannon Stand in 1980 and the Hugh Friel Stand in 1998. The New Stand Complex provides public bars and dining areas including a reserved upper level with dining room and corporate hospitality suites. The Hannon Stand includes reserved seating for patrons, a reserved Stand and two bars.
Hospitality tickets can booked on the website, including a restaurant package with a 3 course meal and waiter service. There are also numerous food outlets around the course. The course provides a giant screen for the September Festival with live music after each day’s racing.
Listowel is adjacent to the town and within easy walking distance of the town centre. Listowel is located 16 miles north of Tralee and 50 miles west of Limerick. There is a regular train service from Dublin Heuston Station to Tralee and Limerick and frequent flights from Dublin to Kerry Airport.
Tickets
You can book your Festival tickets online with a choice of day tickets or a full 7-day ticket. You can also purchase a Festival Flexi Ticket which can be used on any one day of the meeting. A Group Flexi Ticket for 20 or more gets you a 20% discount.
The Effect of the Draw
A low draw is preferred here, especially when the ground is riding fast. Soft going tends to negate any draw advantage and can bring stamina into play.
