Market Rasen — race-day round-up (15 August 2026)
Market Rasen produced a busy evening of jump racing on 15 August, with Nicky Richards scoring a double as Danny McMenamin teamed up with him to land two of the feature events. Centurion’s Sister and Ballynoe Boy both ran out decisive winners, while Gower Prince and Kiwi de Cotte provided tidy victories in the chasing and hurdle divisions respectively. Huckleberry Sting headed a small but competitive handicap chase after a couple of late self-certifications reduced the field.
Key moments
Centurion’s Sister (Nicky Richards/Danny McMenamin) opened the winners’ list in the 17:30 maiden hurdle, leading after 2 out and drawing clear inside the final furlong. Jonjo & A J O’Neill’s Gower Prince chased home a strong front-runner to score in the 18:34 chase, and Dan Skelton’s Kiwi de Cotte took the 19:04 handicap hurdle after making the running and fending off late pressure. The 19:34 handicap chase saw two runners (La Quarite and Huit Reflets) declared self-certified and withdrawn; Huckleberry Sting (T Ellis/Jack Andrews) went on to win convincingly. In the 20:04 handicap hurdle Ballynoe Boy finished best to complete a successful evening for Richards and McMenamin. Fine Point unseated early in the finale (UR) but there were no abandoned races on the card.

Racecourse Guide
Market Rasen’s excellent reputation as a friendly venue is well founded and their summer jumping fixtures are extremely popular. It is a right handed, sharp course of around a mile and a quarter. It tends to favour speedy horses that can lie up with the pace, particularly during the summer months on quicker ground.
There are three fences in the long home straight but it can be difficult to make up ground when horses quicken off the turn. The fences are not too testing and it is an ideal course for a novice. The Summer Plate was upgraded to Grade 3 status in 2020. Trainer Peter Bowen won it for a record eighth time when Francky Du Berlais won it for a second successive season in 2022, the first dual winner in the history of the event.
