Racecourse Guide
Known locally as Gosforth Park, Newcastle’s floodlit Tapeta all-weather track opened in May 2016, replacing the old turf Flat course. It is a wide, galloping left-handed oval of around a mile and five furlongs, laid outside the jumps course, and its straight mile is the only floodlit all-weather straight mile in Europe. The track stages Flat racing all year round, including All-Weather Championships Finals Day and the Listed Burradon Stakes on Good Friday, and the highlight of the season is the Northumberland Plate in late June – a fiercely battled staying handicap.

The Effect of the Draw
There is no significant draw bias on the straight course, which is used for races up to a mile, but a high draw can be a negative on the round course. Runners drawn wide in a large field concede a lot of ground to those racing on the inside.
