Rubellite kicked off the evening with a determined late push to take the fillies’ handicap, Reformation continued a promising novice season with an authoritative success in the 17:20, and St Helier dominated the 17:57 novice stakes. There were also notable rides from Harry Vigors (Lady Kodiac) and Sean Kirrane (Storm Esme), while Spartan Fighter provided the surprise of the night at 80/1, gamely dictating terms to claim the 19:30 division.
The surface read TAPETA: STANDARD for the entire meeting, and connections were quick to praise the bold front-running tactics that paid dividends in several races. A few non-runners and incidents affected the card: Sharona and Sunriseontheboyne were declared non-runners on self-certificates, and Alkumatic Dan was withdrawn after unseating his rider and being loose before the start.

Newcastle Race Results
Newcastle stages around sixty race meetings during the year, making it one of the busiest racecourses in the country. It has an all-weather track for regular flat meetings and a turf track for top quality National Hunt racing.
The Northumberland Plate over two miles, known locally as the Pitmen’s Derby, takes centre stage in June. It is one of the most fiercely contested staying handicaps of the season. Other significant flat races at Newcastle include the Gosforth Park Cup, the Listed Burradon Stakes and the Group 3 Chipchase Stakes.
Over the jumps, the Fighting Fifth Hurdle takes place at the end of November and is the only Grade 1 event at the track. This has been won by many of the sports leading hurdlers including Night Nurse and Sea Pigeon. The Eider Chase in February is considered a Grand National trial and the last horse to go on to win at Aintree in the same season was Comply Or Die in 2008.
GG provide detailed Newcastle race results as quickly as possible. The winner, placed horses and SP returns are published as soon as the weigh in is confirmed. This is updated with the complete finishing order which can be accessed by clicking on each race title.
Racecourse Guide
Horse racing in the north east dates as far back as the early 17th Century. The inaugural Northumberland Plate took place at Town Moor in 1833 and was transferred to the current site at Gosforth Park in 1882. The flat turf track was replaced by a floodlit all-weather surface in 2016 as part of an £11 million redevelopment.
There all-weather track has a left-handed circuit of over a mile and a half and a straight mile. The round track has long sweeping turns so it is vital to get as close to rail as possible or risk forfeiting a lot of ground.
The National Hunt course at Newcastle is a left-handed, galloping track with a long uphill finish. Stamina is the key factor in the staying chasers like the four-mile Eider Chase, particularly when the going is soft. The fences are tough but fair and trainers regard is at a suitable introduction for a novice.
Dining, Hospitality & Facilities
Newcastle offers top quality hospitality packages for all kinds of events including conferences, weddings and exhibitions. They provide a range of fantastic restaurants and suites as well as a marquee village and live entertainment.
The race day restaurant is in the Grade II Brandling House whereas the Border Minstrel is the ideal pub for friends and families. The course boasts 21 private hospitality boxes, each offering panoramic views of the racecourse. The marquee option can be customised to suit your requirements with exclusive packages available on selected race days.
Newcastle Central Station is only fifteen minutes from the racecourse. There is a free bus shuttle service in operation from Regent Centre and Four Lane Ends Metro on all race days.
Tickets
You can book Newcastle race day packages and daily admission tickets online. The Grandstand Advance Ticket provides excellent views of the pre-parade ring and parade ring as well as the racing action. You will also have access to public bars and eateries. You can also book a 3 course meal at the Raceday Restaurant or choose from the splendid array of private hospitality packages which range from the Classic through to the Top Hat Package.
The Effect of the Draw
There is no significant draw bias on the straight course at Newcastle tip but a high draw can be a negative on the round course. Runners drawn wide in a large field concede a lot of ground to those racing on the inside.
