Salisbury Race Results

Salisbury stages around 15 race meetings between late April or early May through to October. The Listed Cathedral Stakes and the competitive Bibury Cup are the main events in June. The biggest meeting takes place over two days in mid-August and features the Group 3 Sovereign Stakes and the Listed Uphavon Fillies’ Stakes.

The Group 3 Dick Poole Fillies’ Stakes is the highlight of the September meeting and there are well-attended evening meetings throughout the summer. The Sovereign Stakes is the most valuable race of the season at Salisbury while the Dick Poole Fillies’ Stakes was promoted from listed to Group 3 status in 2014.

GG aim to publish the Salisbury winner, placed horses and SP returns as quickly as possible. The result will appear on Today’s Results & Racecards page and is later updated with the complete finishing order and Tote returns.

Racecourse Guide

Salisbury is regarded as an ideal track for the leading stables to introduce their better prospects. With plenty of well-bred juveniles and potentially smart three-year-olds, it is not surprising that this attractive racecourse pulls in the crowds. Top quality past winners at Salisbury include Mill Reef and Brigadier Gerard, two legends of the sport.

Other notable winners here in more recent times include Derby winner Sir Percy, Oaks winner Look Here and St Leger winner Simple Verse. Sir Percy won a conditions race at Salisbury prior to his 2006 Epsom victory. Look Here won on her racecourse debut and claimed Classic glory in 2008 while Simple Verse won the Bibury Cup in 2015. She went on to make dramatic improvement and won the St Leger.

Salisbury is a right hand track on a loop with a long home straight of almost seven furlongs. It is unusual in that horses start racing in the opposite direction for the long distance events to take in the loop and then turn back up the straight. There is a straight mile and the course is on a gradual incline all the way up to the winning post. This can bring stamina into play, particularly when the going is soft or heavy.

Dining, Hospitality & Facilities

Salisbury racecourse is about 3 miles south west of the Cathedral city. It offers a wide range of hospitality options with two restaurants; the Moonraker and the Conservatory. The Moonraker serves a delicious three course hot meal with a seated starter and dessert. On selected meetings there is also complimentary tea and cakes! The Conservatory Restaurant offers the same menu but includes a view of the parade ring and a complimentary glass of champagne on arrival.

Vintage High Tea is served in the Tisbury & Wilton Rooms overlooking the winning post and there is a selection of six private boxes. There are four in the Bibury Stand and two in the Festival Stand with a minimum booking of 12 persons per box.

Salisbury Railway Station is around 3 miles from the racecourse and there are direct trains from London Waterloo making the one and a half hour journey. A free bus service is available from the station to the course on race days.

Tickets

You can book Salisbury race day tickets from as little as £10 per person online. Options range from the Sarum Enclosure which has no access to the parade ring through to the Grandstand & Paddock or Premier Ticket. The latter gives you access to all bars except Owners and Trainers and you can view the action from the Bibury Lawn adjacent to the winning post.

The Effect of the Draw

The draw can be a factor in sprint races where it can be a slight advantage to be drawn high, nearest the far rail. There is no obvious draw bias in races longer than six furlongs.
