Tipperary Race Results

There is no racing at Tipperary in 2026. The course is closed while a new floodlit Polytrack all-weather track is built there, its 2026 fixtures have been moved to other venues, and racing is due to return from October 2027. Tipperary is a popular Grade 2 dual purpose track which has been operating from its current location since 1916. It used to be called “Limerick Junction”, owing to its literal location, but the name was changed in 1986. It normally stages 11 race meetings a year with a mixture of flat and jumps between April and October, and a full winter all-weather programme is planned from 2027/28.

The biggest race day of the year at Tipperary has traditionally been a high-quality mixed card in October known as “Super Sunday”. It has featured the Listed Concorde Stakes on the flat and the Grade 3 Tipperary Hurdle plus two Grade 3 National Hunt novice events. Tipperary’s Group 3 race on the flat is the Fairy Bridge Stakes in August. There is no Super Sunday in 2026: the Concorde Stakes was run at the Curragh, the jumps races moved to Gowran Park’s October meeting and the Fairy Bridge Stakes was run at Cork.

The Tipperary Hurdle was formerly run as the John James McManus Memorial Hurdle and the first three renewals were won by the legendary Istabraq (1997-1999). He was trained locally by Aidan O’Brien who has since gone on to become one of the greatest flat racing trainers of all time. He has won maiden races here with the likes of High Chaparral, Hawk Wing and Dylan Thomas.

Racecourse Guide

Tipperary is a flat, left-handed oval course of about ten furlongs with a five furlong chute for sprint contests. The sprint track joins the main track at the entrance to the home straight which is two and a half furlongs from the winning post.

The Chase course is on the inside of the hurdles track so it is certainly on the sharp side. There are six fences to a circuit and it favours slick jumping front-runners over the long striding staying horses. However, the ground can get really deep here in winter which turns it into a real stamina test.

Dining, Hospitality & Facilities

Tipperary has offered restaurant dining with views of the racecourse and the Silvermine Mountains, along with private hospitality for groups and charities. No hospitality is available in 2026 while the course is closed, so check the official website for restaurant and hospitality packages when racing returns in 2027.

Tipperary is the only racecourse in Ireland that is adjacent to a railway station. Limerick Junction is just a five minute walk from the track. There are regular trains from Dublin (Heuston Station) and Cork to Limerick Junction on race days.

Tickets

No tickets are on sale for 2026 while Tipperary is closed for the all-weather development. When racing returns in 2027, admission tickets and any value packages can be booked online through the official website.

The Effect of the Draw

A low draw is a big advantage in seven furlong races here as the bend comes up quickly after the start. The five furlong track is one of the fastest in the country and, while there is no obvious draw bias on fast ground, high numbers have the advantage when the going is soft or heavy.
