Uttoxeter: Results from 7 July 2026

Uttoxeter served up a competitive card on Wednesday with clear-cut winners and a handful of incidents. Eternal Angel dominated the opening Novices’ Hurdle, making all and running on strongly to score easily, while Cavo Tagoo rounded off the day with a comfortable success in the National Hunt Flat. There were tight finishes too – Jiair Madrik just held on in the 14:00 chase – and several non-runners and fallers to note, including a self-certification withdrawal and a couple of unseats.

Key moments

Eternal Angel (Tom Lacey/Stan Sheppard) made a commanding start to the meeting, leading from the front and finishing unchallenged. Jiair Madrik (Donald McCain/Theo Gillard) dug deep to repel the late surge of Ice Jet, winning by a whisker. Karnaval Point (David Pipe/Rian Corcoran) and Abbey Scope (Nicky Richards/Danny McMenamin) both finished strongly in their respective events, while Cawthorne Banker (Jonjo & A J O’Neill/Jonjo O’Neill Jr) produced a late run from the rear to take the 15:30 hurdle.

The card also saw a number of withdrawals and incidents: Lipa K was declared a non-runner on veterinary grounds (self certificate for an abscess), Colinski was a non-runner due to travel problems, Jaunty Trooper bucked and unseated soon after the start in the NH Flat, and Fond Farewell unseated his rider in the 16:00 chase. Several horses were pulled up during their races, including Dancingondiamonds, Ivane, Jet Of Magic, Hillview, Tara Iti and Royal Rhythm.

Notes and takeaways

Uttoxeter’s good (watered) surface produced a number of front-running performances, with several winners making or taking the lead in the closing stages. Connections will be encouraged by the staying-on runs of the likes of Person Of Interest and Cavo Tagoo, while the narrow margins in the 14:00 chase underline how competitive the handicap ranks remain. Keep an eye on horses returning from the card that were pulled up or unseated for any veterinary updates.

Racecourse Guide

Uttoxeter has re-invented itself in recent years as one of the UK’s most progressive tracks, with the Midlands National Meeting in March attracting many top-class performers. Uttoxeter is a sharp, left handed track of just over a mile and a quarter. There is a slight incline on the far side of the track before the runners swing downhill into the four furlong home straight.

The Midlands Grand National is over four and a quarter miles, one of the longest races in the calendar. The course can favour front-runners on good or fast ground but is becomes a gruelling stamina test in soft or heavy ground. It is not unusual for only a handful of Midlands National horses to complete the course in testing conditions. The 50th renewal in 2019 was won by the mud-loving Potters Corner. Uttoxeter attracts many of the top stables, particularly for the big March meeting, and is a standing dish of the national hunt season.

The Uttoxeter Summer Cup takes place on a Sunday in late June or early July. It was formerly over four miles and run as the Summer National but the distance was reduced and the race rebranded in 2012. Other popular race days include Ladies’ Night in June and Family Fun Day towards the end of July.
