Wincanton Race Results
Wincanton stages 17 National Hunt meetings from October through to May, including popular weekend and Bank Holiday fixtures. The Kingwell Hurdle is the feature race of the February meeting while other major races here include the Badger Ales Trophy, the Elite Hurdle and the Rising Star Novices’ Chase.

Racecourse Guide
Wincanton is a sharp, right handed course with a reputation for providing a good test for a steeplechaser. Front runners are particularly well suited to the chase course on good ground. The three fences in the short home straight allow hold-up horses very little opportunity to make up ground. However, this is not the case when the going is soft as tiring horses can struggle to navigate the obstacles and a mistake late in the race can prove costly.
The racecourse is particularly well attended on Festival Trials Day in February and the Boxing Day fixture. Fourteen times British jump racing Champion Trainer Paul Nicholls trains locally at Ditcheat and rarely lets a Wincanton meeting go by without saddling a winner.
The Kingwell Hurdle over two miles is the most significant race at Wincanton, often a useful trial for the Champion Hurdle at Cheltenham. Notable past winners include Alderbrook (1995), Hors La Loi III (2000 and 2002), Katchit (2008) and Binocular (2012). The Badger Ales Trophy in November is one of the first big handicap chases of the season while the Grade 2 Rising Stars Novices’ Chase has been won by the likes of See More Business (1996), Comply Or Die (2004) and Silviniaco Conti (2011).
Dining, Hospitality & Facilities
Wincanton offers a variety of sporting hospitality packages from restaurants to luxury private boxes. Food outlets provide everything from a cold buffet to a four course a la cart menu with fresh, local and seasonal produce served at every meeting.
There are mobile catering units in all enclosures, typically offering fish and chips, burgers, pizza and a range of hot and cold drinks. The private boxes each has their own private balcony for fantastic views of the action with options ranging from Classic to Premier or VIP Hospitality.
Wincanton is located 37 miles south of Bristol in Somerset. The closest railway station is Templecombe on the Waterloo line and a free shuttle bus runs to the track on race days.
Tickets
A wide range of ticket options are available, either to buy online in advance or purchase at the gate. A Grandstand Enclosure ticket includes the main betting ring and a view of the runners jumping the last fence. There is a £3 discount per ticket for parties of ten or more. Racegoers aged 18 to 24 can register online for a superb 50% discount as part of the Jockey Club’s initiative to attract younger spectators.
