Yesterday at Windsor the card produced a mix of predictable winners and a couple of surprise results. Mertoun took the opener after an awkward break to lead late and hold on, while Instant Force reversed the favourite to land the EBF maiden. Song Of The Clouds and Queen Of Scotland both asserted themselves comfortably in their respective contests, and Distant Rumble showed noticeable improvement to score in the Ivor Laws Memorial. King Of Berkshire made all in the 16:12 handicap, Amalou provided the big-price result of the day at 22/1, and Cameley Days finished the card with a composed display to win the finale. A handful of runners were withdrawn on veterinary or suitability grounds but all eight scheduled races were completed.

Non-runners/withdrawals included Kodi Fire (unsuitable ground), Virtue King and Regatta (vet’s advice / lame) and Correspondence (self certificate). Overall the card at Windsor offered a tidy mix of forward two-year-olds and improving handicappers. Connections will be pleased with the likes of Distant Rumble and King Of Berkshire, while Amalou’s win at big odds will give her connections plenty to ponder for a worthwhile follow-up entry. Racecourse Guide
Set in 165 acres of beautiful Berkshire countryside and located on the banks of the River Thames, Windsor is best known for its lively summer evening fixtures that take place on thirteen consecutive Mondays. Windsor is one of only two UK courses with a figure-of-eight circuit and therefore it tends to play into the hands of the well-balanced, nimble individual. The course is becoming known for its quality of maiden race and indeed for a consistently vibrant handicapping scene.

Tickets
There are three ticket options available at Doncaster racecourse:
- Silver Ring Enclosure. The only enclosure where you are able to bring your own picnic. Allows access to the centre of the course so you can be in the heart of the action.
- Grandstand Enclosure. Offers excellent views of the course and winning post, along with seating areas and a choice of eateries.
- Heidsieck Club Enclosure. Offers a prime location right next to the winning post, along with a wide choice of bars and restaurants.

The Effect of the Draw
High numbers are best in sprints when the ground is good or faster, but it’s the opposite on soft and heavy ground, when low numbers have a clear edge. Good to soft ground cancels out biases. Concentrate on the bottom seven stalls in soft and heavy ground sprints, cross out any runner drawn in single figures in fast-ground sprints with more than eighteen runners.
