Wolverhampton results — 18 August 2026

Yesterday at Wolverhampton (Tapeta – Standard) produced a string of decisive finishes and a few incidents to note. Richard & Peter Fahey recorded a comfortable success with Spaceman in the 18:30 handicap and added another winner on the card as Fizzy Cristal struck in the 19:30 Maggies Handicap. Alan King’s Heroics rounded off the evening with a determined finish in the 20:00 feature.

All races were run on Tapeta (Standard). There were a number of non-runners and incidents to record: Haaderr was withdrawn (self certificate, girth issue), Sailor’s Return was withdrawn (self certificate, off feed), So Alex unseated his rider early in the 20:00, and Kakirra was pulled up and later reported lame on the left-fore.

Racecourse Guide

Wolverhampton racecourse has been redeveloped into an exciting leisure venue hosting a remarkable eighty fixtures each year. The Lady Wulfruna Stakes is the most valuable race staged at the course, a fast-track qualifier for the All-Weather Championships. It guarantees the winner a free entry for the £1 million Finals Day.

The course was re-opened as Britain’s first floodlit racecourse in 1994 and now welcomes 120,000 visitors each year. Wolverhampton was also the first Tapeta surface to be used for racing in Europe. The racecourse is left handed and one mile in circumference. It is a very tight, oval track which favours nimble horses which like to race prominently.

Wolverhampton also favours course specialists, notably Stand Guard who won eleven times here and a record 28 times on the all-weather. His career began in 2007, eventually claiming his final victory as a thirteen-year-old ten years’ later.

Dining, Hospitality & Facilities

Wolverhampton boasts an impressive array of facilities. As well as having plentiful bars and restaurants, it also has an onsite hotel and a busy conference and exhibition centre. There are a range of hospitality packages on offer with fantastic views across the track. Wolverhampton’s Horizon Restaurant is set over three tiers of a stunning glass-fronted building while the Ringside Restaurant is a popular 400-seat dining area adjacent to the Parade Ring.

There are frequent trains to Wolverhampton Train Station from London, Birmingham and Manchester. The station is two miles from the track with frequent buses on all race days.

Tickets

Tickets can be booked in advance online, ranging from Grandstand Advance booking to Private Hospitality with the Break Out of the Boardroom package. The Grandstand booking includes access to public parks, eateries and betting outlets with views of the pre-parade ring, parade ring and of course the racing itself. The Private Hospitality packages are for groups of 12 to 32 and include a private suite with balcony views, private bar and afternoon tea.

The Effect of the Draw

Although Wolverhampton is a sharp track with a relatively short home straight, there is no discernible draw bias. If you are concerned about a high draw, you can usually predict where the early pace is likely to come from by studying the traits of your horse’s rivals.
