Horses To Note
- High Dancer — 1 run, 1 win (100% win rate), 1 place (100%), prize money: £8,169.04. Perfect record at Hexham (small sample) — major threat if repeats that run.
- Ruby Island — 1 run, 1 win (100% win rate), 1 place (100%), prize money: £2,450.70. Unbeaten in a Hexham appearance; suited by the conditions we’ve seen here.
- Imperfectlyperfect — 3 runs, 2 wins (66.67% win rate), 3 places (100%), prize money: £10,950.30. Strong place consistency and high conversion rate — looks reliable for big-field handicaps.
- Diamond Mix — 4 runs, 2 wins (50% win rate), 3 places (75%), prize money: £17,075.41. Regularly competitive here — handles the track well and is a frequent place-earner.
- Ghasham — 2 runs, 1 win (50% win rate), 2 places (100%), prize money: £7,711.00. Small sample but consistent when lining up at Hexham.
Trainers To Note
- Ann Hamilton — 15 runs, 4 wins (26.67% win rate), 8 places (53.33%), prize money: £46,326.35. Best strike-rate of the top trainers here — worth noting when she sends horses.
- James Moffatt — 43 runs, 11 wins (25.58% win rate), 26 places (60.47%), prize money: £71,491.96. High place rate and strong winner conversion over a reasonable sample.
- Adam Nicol — 24 runs, 6 wins (25% win rate), 10 places (41.67%), prize money: £42,885.22. Consistent winner at Hexham — strikes frequently relative to runners.
- Nicky Richards — 91 runs, 21 wins (23.08% win rate), 54 places (59.34%), prize money: £178,873.50. Big sample and excellent place return — a trainer to respect at this course.
- Sam England — 90 runs, 19 wins (21.11% win rate), 48 places (53.33%), prize money: £151,874.55. Large sample with steady strike-rate — a reliable source of competitive runners.
Jockeys To Note
- Jonathan England — 73 rides, 16 wins (21.92% win rate), 39 places (53.42%), prize money: £125,900.62. Strong striking percentage and excellent place rate — a go-to pilot around Hexham.
- Charlie Maggs — 40 rides, 8 wins (20% win rate), 25 places (62.5%), prize money: £72,275.52. Excellent place conversion; often gets best from his mounts here.
- Danny McMenamin — 172 rides, 31 wins (18.02% win rate), 100 places (58.14%), prize money: £265,395.00. Big sample, consistent performer — dangerous in many races.
- Sean Quinlan — 235 rides, 38 wins (16.17% win rate), 116 places (49.36%), prize money: £332,742.10. High-volume rider with plenty of winners — experience at Hexham counts.
- Ryan Mania — 102 rides, 16 wins (15.69% win rate), 49 places (48.04%), prize money: £149,820.39. Solid strike rate and strong record in purse money earned at the course.
Pointers: Hexham tends to reward consistent, course-proven types — small-sample 100% records (High Dancer, Ruby Island) are eye-catching but treat them with caution. Trainers with >20% strike-rate here (Ann Hamilton, James Moffatt, Adam Nicol) are worth following; jockeys with high place percentages (Charlie Maggs, Danny McMenamin) can make the difference in crowded handicaps.

Hexham Race Results
Hexham is Northumberland’s only racecourse and stages 15 National Hunt meetings between March and December. These include very popular summer jump meetings and evening meetings. The Heart of All England Chase was first run in 1907 and takes place in early May and there is a popular Ladies Day in June. There is also a Christmas Raceday in early December.
Past winners of the Heart of All England Chase include Earls Brig. He went on to finish third to Forgive n’ Forget in the 1985 Cheltenham Gold Cup. He was bred, owned and trained locally by Billy Hamilton at Bonchester Bridge near Hawick.

Racecourse Guide
Hexham Racecourse is high on the Northumberland moors, just south of Hadrian’s Wall and around 800 feet above sea level. It is a left-handed, undulating track of about one and a half miles. There is a steep climb from the end of the back straight to the finishing line with only a short run-in after jumping the last.
The fences are not regarded as being difficult with ten jumps on each circuit. The biggest factor to consider at Hexham is the ground as it can get very testing here. In soft or heavy ground, it can be an exhausting climb back up to the winning post.
Dining, Hospitality & Facilities
Hexham must rate as one of the most picturesque racecourses in the UK with the surrounding hills forming a natural amphitheatre. There are a range of hospitality packages on offer including the Henderson Suite with its own bar and stunning views of the track. It overlooks the parade ring and winners’ enclosure, an idyllic setting in which to enjoy your four course carvery buffet.
The Curlew Room also provides panoramic views of the racecourse and includes club enclosure entry and a private table for the day. You can purchase food and drink from the snack menu which typically features a hot dish and pies. Hexham’s private boxes serve everything from finger buffets to four course carvery buffets with optional afternoon tea. The Enderby, Patterson and Gill Boxes are on the top floor of the Ramshaw Stand and can each accommodate from 20 to 24 guests.
Hexham Racecourse is at High Yarridge in Northumberland. Hexham Railway Station is just two miles from the racecourse on the Newcastle upon Tyne to Carlisle line. A free shuttle bus service operates on all race days.
