Leicester results — Wednesday 6 October 2026
Leicester produced a competitive card on Good to Firm (Good in places; watered; 6.2) with a handful of surprises and a couple of heavy favourites doing their job. The big talking points included Moostar (12/1) coming through late to take the Willpower Group Apprentice Handicap after an awkward start and a routine test following the race, and Woodvale (4/5) confirming favourite status in the Alan & Sarah #laughterloft Legends Novice Stakes. There were also notable long-odds successes: Lady Of Hay (22/1) landed the nursery and Trispen (9/1) won the restricted fillies’ maiden, while Magic Music (13/8) delivered the finale under David Egan for Steph Hollinshead.
Key raceday notes
Three runners were withdrawn before the off: Secret Rival (vet’s advice after being kicked), Blue Fox (upset in the stalls) and Sayidah Iffraaj (upset in stalls). Be The Standard was also declared a non-runner due to unsuitable ground. Standout performances included Moostar’s determined late surge (trainer’s representative had no immediate explanation for the improvement) and Jason Watson’s neck-and-neck steering of Lady Of Hay in the nursery. Favourites generally held their form where expected — Woodvale and Magic Music both obliged — but the card offered value for those prepared to back the outsiders.

Racecourse Guide
All flat races up to one mile at Leicester are staged on the straight course which joins the main round track at the five-furlong pole. The oval track is right handed and nearly two miles in circumference with a run in of over half a mile. There is a gradual climb in the home straight during the last two furlongs to the winning post.
When the going is soft it is an advantage to bring horses over towards the better ground under the stands’ rail. The uphill finish catches out runners that have raced too keenly in the early part of the race. The top flat stables like to run their late maturing two-year-olds here as they have plenty of time to find their stride in the home straight.
The hurdles races are run on the flat racing track which can often ride softer than the chase course. The fences are not as daunting as they once were at Leicester but they still take some jumping. It can be quite a tricky course for a novice chaser.

The Effect of the Draw
There is a slight draw bias in favour of low numbers in races from six furlongs up to a mile at Leicester. There does not appear to be any discernible bias in five furlong races.
