2.30 Royal Ascot – REVIVAL POWER (1pt e/w – 18/1 bet365, 16/1 generally)
REVIVAL POWER missed the break and ran green – jinking left over a furlong out – before staying on well to cause a 22-1 surprise at Thirsk on her debut last month. That form has been boosted by subsequent wins from the runner-up/fifth and Tim Easterby’s filly doesn’t look out of place in the Queen Mary. It’s rare for her trainer to win with first-time out juvenile and in the past ten years only three of them have been asked to race in Class 1 company on their second start , with two of them winning (10-1 and 7-2). Her stall 9 draw should be fine – the front three in the current betting are drawn nearby in stalls 15, 13 and 10 – and she looks over-priced.
3.40 Royal Ascot –SOPRANO (1pt e/w – 14/1 Sky Bet, Paddy Power, 12/1 generally)
I want to oppose ELMALKA in the Duke Of Cambridge Stakes as she was flattered by last season’s 1000 Guineas win (the track was favouring high-drawn hold-up horses that day, and she has finished unplaced in four of her five subsequent starts). Last year’s winner RUNNING LION is another to take on as she is finding it increasingly difficult to get her head in front and now wears first-time headgear. I’m going to save on Lockinge sixth FALLEN ANGEL whose record against her own sex over 7f-1m reads 111812 (4-6), with the eighth place easily ignored as she had a poor low draw and raced closer to the early pace than ideal last season’s 1000 Guineas – but the main bet is SOPRANO. George Boughey’s filly has made the frame in 12 of her 14 European starts, won the Sandringham Stakes at this meeting last year and ‘won’ the race in the centre group when third in the 2023 Albany. She made a winning return in a 1m Listed race at Kempton in late March and should get a good tow into the race from Fallen Angel.
5.00 Royal Ascot – LA TRINIDAD (1pt e/w – 50/1 William Hill, 40/1 Ladbrokes)
Those of you who watched the GG Royal Ascot preview on YouTube will know how keen I am on LA TRINIDAD, who was a big eyecatcher in Old Cock’s race at York last month when doing best of the closers in an 18-1 third of 14. Roger Fell’s eight-year-old is in my tracker to only back in the high summer period (June to August) as his seven career wins have come at this time of year. In June only, his record reads 111411 (5-6), with the sole defeat a hampered 28-1 fourth of 15 in a hot Epsom handicap on Derby Day 2022. He’s older than your average Royal Hunt Cup winner but it’s rare for his connections to send him south and the hint should be taken.
6.10 Royal Ascot – UTMOST RESPECT (1pt e/w – 11/1 bet365, Betfred, 10/1 generally)
I wanted to play one of the newcomers in the 5f Class 2 novice stakes at York’s Dante meeting as those with prior experience hadn’t done enough on the clock to win a race of this nature. After seeing the runners in the paddock I sided with Richard Fahey’s UTMOST RESPECT, who was most unlucky not to win. Oisin Orr managed to get the son of Invincible Spirit boxed in on the inside rail despite only facing five rivals and had to wait an eternity for an ‘out’. He was eventually switched to the wide outside after which he flew at the finish to go down by just half a length in second place. He left the firm impression that he would have won easily with a clear passage and he can make amends here.

Andrew’s Angles – Delving Into Royal Ascot 2025
With Royal Ascot taking centre stage next month (Tuesday 17th – Saturday 21st June) I want to use the next few ‘Andrew’s Angles’ articles to deep dive into the stats that could help us to narrow the fields and make our punting more profitable. Here are a few early observations for some of the non-Group…
