Lingfield — Saturday 12 September 2026: Racecard summary and results
Affettuoso proved irresistible in the Alan Rae Smith Errant Novice Stakes, bolting up as the 1/9 favourite, while James Choice capitalised in the 14:13 Sky Sports Racing Virgin 512 Handicap after Rossa Raheen was withdrawn with a stone bruise. The day’s card produced a string of useful handicap winners — Amber Honey, Ernie McCrew, Tatterstall, Quick Quasar, Royal County Glory, Espanita and Iconic Dawn — on Polytrack (Standard). There were a number of non-runners and withdrawals on veterinary or seasonal grounds which altered several fields.

Affettuoso (Roger Varian, Ray Dawson) travelled well throughout, fought back to regain the lead over 3f out and pulled clear to win readily. At 14:13 James Choice (Warren Greatrex, Edward Greatrex) overcame a mid-race holding-up ride to switch across and drive past rivals, edging clear inside the final 110 yards. In the feature handicaps Amber Honey (Pat Phelan / Paddy Bradley) and Ernie McCrew (J S Moore / Edward Greatrex) both timed their moves well to prevail in staying finishes, while Tatterstall (Michael Dods / Connor Beasley) produced a notable return to form — the yard reported he had benefited from a more patient ride and the track suited him.
Late in the card Quick Quasar (Archie Watson / Luke Morris) and Royal County Glory (Jack Jones / George Wood) took the two divisions of the 16:35/17:15 handicaps, Espanita (Charlie Johnston / Connor Beasley) won the fillies’ handicap and Iconic Dawn (Hughie Morrison / Harry Davies) closed the evening with a decisive success in the 18:17 handicap.

The Effect of the Draw
Over 6f and 1m2f on the All-Weather it is fairly safe to ignore anything drawn higher than 7, and low numbers are also best at all other distances. Even more so if there has been recent rain, when the surface rides faster. Cross out any runner drawn 8 and above in races of up to, and including, 1m2f on the All-Weather.
