Epsom Oaks Betting Tips

The Epsom Oaks takes place in late May or early June at Epsom Downs racecourse and is a Classic Group 1 race run over 1m 4f 6y and is open to three-year-old fillies.

First held in 1779, the Epsom Oaks takes place the day before the Epsom Derby and attracts some of the leading middle distance three-year-old fillies from across the UK, Ireland and Europe.

Won by some iconic fillies down the years with the likes of Pretty Polly, Oh So Sharp and Enable all claiming victory in the race, the Epsom Oaks is one of the feature races on the Flat racing calendar.

The 2026 Epsom Oaks is set to be a hugely competitive event and we will have our Oaks Tips here nearer the off.

Matthew Sutcliffe’s Oaks Tip

Matty Sutcliffe believes the regally bred Legacy Link can deliver on her promise to win the Epsom Oaks. Her battling qualities were on full display in the Musidora Stakes at York.

Who are this Year’s Epsom Oaks Favourites?

Among the favourites for this year’s Epsom Oaks are Amelia Earhart, Precise and Legacy Link.

Amelia Earhart impressed with her big stride in winning the Listed Cheshire Oaks at Chester in May. She looks likely to be a thorough stayer, though pedigree experts will point to Legacy Link as a potential star: she is a daughter of Frankel’s sister Chiasma.

Precise is for those who like a class edge. She has already won the Irish 1000 Guineas, but may struggle to see out this trip.

Who are this Year’s Epsom Oaks Underdogs?

Cameo was another of the Oaks trial winners for Aidan O’Brien. She won well at Lingfield, though based on form in the book, Venetian Lace should be going close. She finished third in the 1000 Guineas at Newmarket, finishing ahead of Precise, and could easily see out the 1m4f distance for Charlie Johnston.

Last Year’s Epsom Oaks Odds

Charlie Appleby’s Desert Flower was a hot favourite for the 2025 Oaks, as she looked to build on a fine win in the 1000 Guineas at Newmarket. However, she was beaten by second favourite Minnie Hauk, who won at 9/2.

Epsom Oaks Racecourse

The Oaks is run at Epsom Downs racecourse, which is a track in the county of Surrey in the south of England. With a unique undulation style to the track, it’s idiosyncratic camber down the home straight can test the horses in the Epsom Oaks.

Are There Any Specific Epsom Oaks Offers?

There are no specific Epsom Oaks offers available at this stage, but we will have any specials or Oaks offers available for the 2024 edition when they are here.

Aidan O’Brien has won the race seven times in the last 11 years, so the Ballydoyle supremo is certainly a man to follow and he’s sure to have a strong team heading to Epsom racecourse for this year’s renewal.

There have been two winning favourites in the last 10 years, but only one winner in the last decade has been priced over 10/1, so those at the head of the market can often be worth following.

When looking for vital Oaks clues then some of the races to watch out for as key trials are the 1000 Guineas, Musidora Stakes and Cheshire Oaks.

Which Trainers Have Historically Had the Most Success in the Epsom Oaks?

You have to go all the way back to the 1800s for the most successful trainer in the Oaks as Robert Robson trained 13 winners between 1802 and 1825, while in the same era Frank Buckle rode the winner on nine separate occasions.

In more recent times the legendary Sir Henry Cecil trained the winner of the Oaks eight times with the likes of Oh So Sharp (1985) and Light Shift (2007) two of his big named winners, while Aidan O’Brien eclipsed Cecil’s number when he trained his tenth winner in the shape of Tuesday in the 2022 renewal. He is now on 11, just two behind the record, after winning in 2025.

It’s a race that will only see the best do battle and all the leading trainers will unleash their star fillies and look to etch their name on the illustrious roll of honour.
