Galopin Des Champs Career Form And Notable Achievements
Galopin Des Champs has won 9 of his 14 career races to date, with his biggest victory coming when winning the 2023 Cheltenham Gold Cup. His first win for Willie Mullins came in the Martin Pipe Handicap Hurdle at the 2021 Cheltenham Festival, and he followed that up with an impressive 12-length victory in the Grade 1 Irish Mirror Novice Hurdle at Punchestown just over a month later.
The following season he was sent over fences and won his first two races easily. He had an agonising fall at the final fence in the Turners Novices’ Chase at Cheltenham Festival when pulling clear of his rivals, but duly made amends by winning the Gold Cup Novice Chase at Fairyhouse the following month.
His 22/23 season was his best yet though, winning three of his four races, all at Grade 1 level. The first came in the John Durkan Memorial Punchestown Chase, before stepping up to 3 miles for the first time to win the Irish Gold Cup at Leopardstown. His biggest achievement to date came in the Cheltenham Gold Cup though, where he was sent off as favourite and proved the market right, running out an impressive 7-length winner to give Willie Mullins his third win in the race.
